MoJo Running Group Holding ‘A Mile of Silence for Boston’ in Cranberry Area

The public is welcome to attend the run.

As someone who has participated multiple times in the Boston Marathon, Jen Wohlgamuth, owner of MoJo Running & Multisport in Seven Fields, was shocked by the Monday’s terror attack that left three people dead and more than 170 people injured.

“It has really rocked a lot of people’s worlds,” Wohlgamuth said.

And it left her wanting to do something about it.

As a way to observe Monday’s tragedy, MoJo’s weekly run group will run a mile in silence Wednesday, April 17.

“We felt that this was a good way for all of us to reconnect for the love of our sport,” Wohlgamuth said in an email.

The public is welcome to join the run—even if they just plan to walk. Participants will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the MoJo shop on Castle Creek Drive.

“We were planning to get together Wednesday anyway, so we decided to invite as many people as possible,” Wohlgamuth said.

Wohlgamuth said runners and walkers would do a 3 to 5 mile loop in the area before returning to the store. Only the first mile will be in silence.

Wohlgamuth said several people from her running group, who are all from the Cranberry and Wexford areas, attended the Boston Marathon. None were injured, she said.

“Everyone is fine and heading on their way home,” she said.

In light of the Boston Marathon explosions, Wohlgamuth said she believes runners will forever be more cautious of their surroundings at future events—but it won’t make them quit their sport.

“If anything, it will make people stronger,” she said.
