Meals Ready to Return at Zelienople Senior Center

The center at the Passavant Retirement Community campus recently failed a state inspection for not having a permanent sink.

With the installation of a new sink, the Zelienople Senior Center could be serving meals again by the end of August, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

In the spring, the center failed a state inspection for not have a permanent sink for hand washing and was told it could no longer serve food. The center had reportedly been using a temporary hand washing station.

Since July 1, The Butler County Area Agency on Aging has been transporting participants via a free BART bus service to get lunch at the Cranberry Senior Center or the Evans City Senior Center.

Area Agency on Aging Director Beth Herold told the Trib officials decided to install the sink because residents of the Passavant Retirement Community campus in Zelienople benefit from meals at the center.

She said plans to begin serving meals again are subject to approval from the Butler County commissioners, the Trib reports.

The center could start serving food again Aug. 21, which is National Senior Citizens Day.
