Grab & Go Kids Planner: Romp and Roll Your Way to Fun

These family activities are sure to add bang to your week.

This week, we offer spaghetti and meatballs, spicy chili, roller skating and pickleball. Pick one or pick 'em all, just don’t pick 'em at the same time!

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Pine Family Night

When/Where: 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the Pine Community Center.

Why Go: If you don’t know what pickleball is, here’s your chance to find out. You and the family also can play volleyball, table tennis and Nintendo Wii, or try out the Sportwall and Xer Dance. If you’re looking for something quieter, you can play board games in the community room.

Pricing: Free to all full-facility members; non-members $5 per person, $20 maximum per family.

Skate Into Spring

When/Where: 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at the Romp n’ Roll in Glenshaw.

Why Go: Did you know The Romp is home to the Steel City Derby Demons, the Pittsburgh area’s only women’s flat-track roller-derby league? Break out your roller skates and help support the gals at their spring fundraiser skating party. Your kids will have a blast, and you’ll feel like you’re 13 again.

Pricing: $6 per person.

Spaghetti Dinner

When/Where: 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 26, in the Pine-Richland High School cafeteria.

Why Go: Pine-Richland’s production of "Les Miserables" might be a little deep for your "Yo Gabba Gabba" loving youngsters, but everyone can get in on the excitement of high school musical season at this community spaghetti diner. Proceeds from the event benefit the Pine-Richland High School Choral Scholarship Fund. The school's choral singers and orchestra will perform during the dinner.  And the food? Well, spaghetti and meatballs beats broccoli any day.

Pricing: Adults $8; students and senior citizens $6; children 5 and younger $4; cast, crew and orchestra of musical $5.

Out of This World Chili Cook Off

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Mars Area Middle School.

Why Go: If you have pint-sized Steelers fans in your family, this is the place to be. Besides a chance to sample a variety of tasty chili, this event -- which the Mars Area Kiwanis Club is sponsoring-- also offers the opportunity to meet Steelers defensive lineman Nick Eason. Proceeds from the event will benefit various local charities. For more information, call Dale Roos at 724-333-5230.

Pricing: $5 per person.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Where/When: March 25-27, The Strand Theater in Zelienople. See website for show times

Why Go: Take your family to see this musical classic, and end your busy week with a bang. The 1968 film stars Dick Van Dyke as an eccentric inventor, and that proves movies don’t have to be in 3D to be fun.
