Get Out: Harmony Community Days and Farmers Market

The return of the Patch Weekend Planner

Well, school finally is out for the summer. Looking for something to do with the kids? Heck, are you just looking for something to do? We have a few suggestions with the Cranberry Patch Weekend Planner.

1. Harmony Community Days

When/Where: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in the streets of Harmony and the volunteer fire company lot.

Why Go: This is an action-packed event sure to keep you entertained. Things kick off with the car cruise at 11:30 a.m. The little ones will enjoy a bounce house, a puppet show and an ice cream social. There also will be musical entertainment by Dennis McCurdy and the Lonesome No More Band, and an acoustic set by Jon Fisher. For the ladies, Harmony’s unique shops will be open throughout the event. Oh, and don’t forget to stop by the hot dog-eating contest at 3 p.m.

Price: Free, but bring money for vendors.

2. The Rachel Carson Trail Challenge

When/Where: The challenge starts at sunrise Saturday at North Park in McCandless Township.

Why Go: If you want to test your strength and endurance, this is the way to do it. The challenge is a 34-mile hike along the brutal Rachel Carson trail that leads through muddy creeks and wooded paths and ends in Harrison Hills County Park. For the faint of heart, The Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy also offers the 16-mile Homestead Challenge and the 7-mile Friends and Family Challenge from Tarentum. All events finish in Harrison Hills Park. About 600 are expected to test their mettle with the event. 

Price: $70 entry fee.

 Cranberry Farmers Market

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the on Route 19.

Why Go: Get your fresh greens without having to travel to the farm. There will be a farmers market every Saturday morning at the fire station until October. 

Price: The cost of your fresh fruits and veggies.

4. Butler Summer Jams Concert Series

When/Where: 6 to 10:30 p.m. on the third Friday of every month through August in downtown Butler.

Why Go: Besides live music and other activities, there will be a downtown marketplace with food, beer, and merchandise vendors. Yum!

Cost: Free.

5. Cranberry Highlands Golf Course

When/Where: Reserve a tee time by calling the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course on Freshcorn Road at 724-776-7372. 

Why Go: Father's Day is Sunday. Treat dear old dad to a round of golf at the beautiful Cranberry Highlands municipal golf course. Relax at the course’s grill, or do some bonding time with dad while walking the Cranberry Highlands nature trail. We hear the weather is supposed to be nice.

Cost: Cranberry residents pay $50 for 18 holes on weekends. Non-residents pay $66. For nine holes, the cost is $26 for residents and $34 for non-residents on weekends.
