Five Things You Need to Know This Week

1. Seneca Valley School Board Meeting

What’s going on in your child’s school? Find out in person when Seneca Valley school officials meet at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at the Intermediate High School in Jackson Township.

2. Election Day

Tuesday, Nov. 6 marks Election Day! Will President Barack Obama remain the nation’s leader or will it be the GOP’s Mitt Romney? Don’t forget, your vote counts. 3. WPIAL Playoffs: Seneca Valley vs. Mt. Lebanon

Cheer on the Raiders football team as they take on the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils in the second round of the WPIAL playoffs at 7:30 Friday, Nov. 9 at North Allegheny High School. The WPIAL’s championship game will be held at Heinz Field Nov. 23.

4. Silent Film Festival with The Ivy Leaf Orchestra

The Strand Theater in Zelienople will hold a silent film festival Friday, Nov. 9, Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11. The Ivy Leaf Orchestra will use scores written for the original films to accompany the films live. The price for the Silent Film Festival is $8 for all seats. For more details, click here.

5. Harmony WeihnachtsMarkt

The annual WeihnactsMarkt German Christmas Market in Harmony will take place Nov. 10-11. The event features seasonal gift shopping in an atmosphere of family fun that offers handcrafted items and goods imported from Germany. There’s also an antique show, sale and more.

Market hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for students and free for children younger than six.

The price includes all-day access to the market, museum tours, entertainment and wagon rides. Proceeds benefit Historic Harmony and its museum.
