Five Things You Need to Know This Week

1. Aviation Day Celebration at Butler Airport

Butler Airport has partnered with PennDOT aviation officials as part of the department’s National Aviation Day Celebrations at 11 airports statewide.

The event, now in its third year in Pennsylvania, offers students the opportunity to learn about aviation and to participate in activities designed to meet Scouting aviation badge requirements. will take place from 8 a.m. 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20 at the Butler County Airport, 475 Airport Road, Butler, PA 16002.

2. Evans City VFW Trunk/Yard Sale

Load the trunk of your vehicle with items you want to sell and bring them Set up for the public event starts at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at 408 N. Washington Street, Evans City. The cost is $5 for a space. Tables are available for $10. Refreshments will be served at the sale and there is a 70/30 raffle. Proceeds from the event benefit local veterans.

3. Job Fair

The Chamber of Commerce, Inc. and CareerLink of Butler County are hosting a job fair from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 22 at the on Route 19 in Mars. The career fair is expected to have more than 120 participating employers from the area. In addition, the expo will offer a variety of educational forums, including: “The Pro’s of Hiring a Veteran,” “What’s New in the World of a Job Seeker?” and “Why Can’t I Find a Job?”

4. 22 Quties Special Needs Beauty Pageant

Proceeds from , founded by Cranberry resident Tammy Rose, benefit the nonprofit Dempster Family Foundation. Doors open at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Northway Christian Community Church, 12121 Perry Highway, Wexford, 15090.

The pageant is from 7 to 9 p.m. and includes a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, a door prize and more. A donation of $5 is asked for at the door. Tickets may also be pre-sold by contacting Rose at megsmom012@gmail.com or (724)622-6096.

5. Seneca Valley Band Booster Annual Pie Festival

Enjoy a slice of pie and catch a live performance Pie serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 in the cafeteria. There also will be pie available after the band’s debut performance of its 2012-2013 halftime show featuring the music of Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire!

The band performance kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at NexTier Stadium. The cost is $4 per person and includes pie, ice cream, iced tea or juice and viewing of the band performance. Tickets will be sold at the door and entrance to the field. Whole pies will be sold for $9.
