Expect Slow Going on I-79 for Part of Next Week

Intelligent Transportation System facilities to be installed Tuesday through Thursday nights.

Travel on I-79 gets even more challenging next week as Intelligent Transportation System facilities are installed Tuesday through Thursday nights, May 31 to June 2.

If the weather cooperates, northbound single-lane closures will occur as needed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. between the Route 910/Wexford interchange (Exit 73) and the Mingo Road bridge in Marshall Township, according to a PennDOT District 11 announcement.

Lane closures may mean single-lane traffic because of ongoing bridge improvements in the Mingo Road area, PennDOT said.

Northbound single-lane closures also will occur on I-79 between the Bridgeville Exit 54 interchange and the bridge over Alpine Road (just north of the rest area) in South Fayette Township.

Southbound traffic will not be affected, said PennDOT.

Bruce and Merrilees Electric Co. will perform the work, which includes overhead electrical conduit installation, PennDOT said.

As always, PennDOT tells motorists to slow down and use caution.
