Cranberry plans to extend the trails already in place at Graham Park with help from a new $90,000 grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The money will be used to further the trail system all the way from Rochester to Powell Road, a distance of about 2.15 miles, according to the township.
The 10-foot wide trail, which will follow the Brush Creek alignment, will be the first phase of a long-term, multi-municipal trail-building effort, according to township officials.
The trail will be paved with asphalt and designated for walkers, joggers, bicyclists and roller blade enthusiasts. Horse riding and motorized vehicles, except for those required by public safety and for maintenance, will be prohibited.
During the development of Cranberry’s Recreation and Open Space Plan, paved walking trails linking key destinations were the Cranberry’s most requested amenities, according to township officials.
