Cranberry Gears Up for Fall Slowdown Campaign

There will be signs and increased police presence in neighborhoods signed up for the slowdown program.

With students returning to the classroom later this month, Cranberry is once again revving up its effort to slow down speeders.

The township is again participating in the national Keep Kids Alive Drive 25 program, which is dedicated to creating safer streets for youngsters by reminding drivers to obey the 25 mph speed limit in place in most residential areas.

This week-long campaign takes place Aug. 26 through Sept. 6.

A slow down program also was held June 8 through June 16 when students were let for summer break.

Close to 20 neighborhoods are participating in the 2013 slow down campaign, which is now in its third year in Cranberry.

As part of the program, participating residents place yards signs in front of their homes reminding drivers to slow down.

Two speed-gauge trailers also will be rotated through participating neighborhoods and there is an increased police presence in those areas.

Township Assistant Manager Duane McKee has said data from past campaigns showed a reduction in speeding in the targeted areas.

To review the effectiveness of this year’s program, McKee added the township collects before and after data on speeding, traffic volume and moving violation tickets and warnings.

Below is a list of neighborhoods that are, to date, participating in the campaign.
