Brotherhood Memorial Motorcycle Ride Ready to Rumble Through Zelienople

The event raises scholarship money in honor of Zelienople firefighters Sam Bucci, Elijah Lunsford and Trevor Barkley.

Hundreds of motorcycles will once again rumble through the streets of Zelienople as part of the annual Brotherhood Memorial Ride.

Now in its fourth year, the event raises money for scholarship funds in honor of fallen Zelienople firefighters Sam Bucci and Elijah Lunsford and honorary firefighter Trevor Barkley.

The teens, who were students at Seneca Valley High School, drowned in January 2010 after the sport utility vehicle in which they were riding went out of control and rolled upside down into a icy pond near the Zelienople-Harmony Sportsmen’s club.

Registration for this year’s ride takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Zelienople Fire Department on West Beaver Street. The ride departs the station at 11:15 a.m. The suggested donation is $20 per bike and $10 per passenger.

With the scholarships fully endowed, the ride has since benefited the Zelienople Memorial Skate Park, injured officers from the Cranberry Township and Zelienople Police Departments and the family of Doug Pickett, a former assistant chief at the Harmony Volunteer Fire Company. Pickett, 46, died from a heart attack last April

“This is a way we can honor our brothers and others who serve the community,” said Josh Rader, a Zelienople firefighter and ride co-founder, told Patch prior to last year’s event. Ian Walker is also a ride co-founder.

Post ride, there will be food, a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese auction and more at the Zelienople fire station.
