Area Under Winter Weather Advisory through Monday

While it wasn’t a white Christmas – and – the New Year may get off to a snowy start.

In the wake of a strong cold front, the Cranberry area is under a winter weather advisory through Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued the warning from 7 a.m. Monday to 4 p.m Tuesday for Butler, Lawrence, Armstrong and Indiana counties. Snow accumulation of 3 to 6 inches is possible through Monday night.

Wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph could cause blowing snow and add to travel difficulties, according to a statement from the National Weather Service.

The snow flurries that began falling Sunday night should increase in intensity into Monday evening, according to the weather service. Northwest winds will begin to diminish Tuesday, which should cause the snowfall to taper off. 

A winter weather advisory means periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Drivers should be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility. Report the snowfall accumulation in your area to the National Weather Service by calling 1-877-633-6772.
