A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition and five other people were injured in a multivehicle crash over the weekend in Brady Township that police say was caused by a driver who had fallen asleep.

State police at Butler said a 17-year-old Slippery Rock resident was driving north on the Route 8 between Muddy Creek Drive and Turk Road around 4:40 p.m. Sunday when he fell asleep at the wheel.

According to police, the car went into the opposite lane and struck almost head-on a 1951 Chevrolet driven by Ronald Peter Zamperini, 64.

The driver of a third car, David Kamerer, 63, of Butler, also was treated for minor injuries at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler.
