Traffic Alert: Freedom Road Restrictions in Cranberry

Traffic will be restricted to one lane on the bridge over the Turnpike.

Commuters should be on the lookout for traffic restrictions on Freedom Road this weekend.

The Turnpike Commission plans to take traffic down to one lane on the Freedom Road bridge, which crosses over the Turnpike, from 9 p.m. Friday Oct. 11 until 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, for painting and repairs.

According to the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission, the state's regional planning agency, the two-lane Freedom Road bridge is ranked as one of the Top 10 most congested corridors in nine surrounding counties

While the Pennsylvania Turnpikeand PennDOT’s District 10 have no immediate plans to replace the busy structure, which is a Turnpike-owned bridge on a state highway, Cranberry is making an effort to get improvements made to it.

The township is applying to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program for federal grant money to ease traffic flow on the bridge.
