Gray has held sports youth programs and events in the area for more than 15 years.
A new indoor sports complex is in the works for the intersection of Franklin and Warrendale roads in Pine Township near the border with Cranberry. Glenn and Carol Foglio are partnering up with Dave Gray, better known in the area as “Coach Dave,” on the project, which will offer children and adults the opportunity to play a variety of sports, including basketball, flag football, volleyball and more. There also are plans to add a concession stand as host wellness and nutritional seminars for the community. “But what were really want to do is get kids playing,” Gray said. A McCandless resident, Gray has been holding youth sports programs and events in the area since 1996. The outdoor sports camps, which can attract up to 200 participants from…

The promotion comes at the same time as Giant Eagle's.
One day after Giant Eagle announced a 20-cent fuelperks promotion, Shop 'n Save contacted Patch to tell us about the stores' 20-cent pump perks happening during the same time duration. Shop 'n Save shoppers will receive 20 cents off per gallon of gas for every $50 they spend on groceries from May 16 through May 29. The limited time promotion aims to double customers’ savings at the pump in advance of one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. According to TripAdvisor’s 2013 Summer Travel Survey, one out every three people will drive between 100 and 200 miles to reach their destination this Memorial Day weekend. "This is the time when people are gearing up for long trips and when gas prices tend to rise as well,” said Bill Lipsky, …

The restaurant will hold an official grand opening in June.
When owner Benny Ulloa says his new Emiliano’s restaurant in Cranberry features authentic Mexican, he means it from the food all the way to the décor. “We wanted to make people completely forget about what was here before,” he said. Located in the former CiCi’s Pizza in the Cranberry mall off Freedom Road, Emiliano’s held its soft opening Monday. The restaurant will hold a larger grand opening June 11, Ulloa said. On the eatery’s menu are a variety of homemade Mexican dishes, including appetizers, fajitas, quesadillas, vegetarian options and much more. Ulloa, who named the restaurant after his 6-year-old son, said his personal recommendations are the Taco Stand street tacos and the California Burrito, a large flour tortilla filled with …

Whether they are in the city or country, there are places near home where you can find fresh produce—or get seedlings to grow your own.
To every thing there is a season—and we are in the season of planting. Despite the frost warnings this week, May is the time when many plants take root. And not far behind are the early harvests. There are a number of local farms that provide a variety of seedings and sprouts, produce and other products as the growing season progresses. Some are urban farms, some are out in the country. (Check out the video at right of Garden Dreams Urban Farm in Wilkinsburg.) According to the LocalHarvest.org website, most produce in the U.S. is picked four to seven days before being placed on supermarket shelves, and is shipped for an average of 1,500 miles before being sold. Fortunately, in the Cranberry Patch area, there are a number of farms in the …

Owner Bill Weaver says there weren’t enough customers to support the business.
After more than a year and a half in business, Graham Central Coffee House & Café has shut its doors in Cranberry. “There just weren’t enough customers, that’s what it boils down to,” said Bill Weaver, one of the café’s owners. Weaver, who owns the BelleVue Commons complex where Graham Central was located, said the café’s last day was last Sunday, May 5. He added he was there Monday as some regulars stopped by their favorite haunt, only to learn it was closed. “It was sad, but business is business,” he said. Located next to Graham Park, Graham Central opened in November 2011 in the BelleVue Park neighborhood off Rochester Road. Weaver also is owner of Weaver Master Builders, the developers behind the neighborhood. Weaver said the original …

Graduation season is quickly approaching and parents of high school seniors are already planning the special parties to celebrate. Local bakeries, party stores and other businesses offer school-color cakes, signs announcing the graduation, balloons and sometimes a novelty, such as a multi-serving sandwich baked into the shape of the school mascot. Even Eat'n Park has gotten in the act with SmileyCookie.com. The restaurant chain's smiling sugar cookie can be ordered online decked out in the Seneca Valley school colors. So, tell us in the comments box below where you have found specialty graduation food or party supplies for your SV Raider. Or, if you have an idea to help make another parent's planning a bit easier, feel free to share your …
