Get a gander at what’s opening soon in the area.

The Courtyard by Marriott is scheduled to open in December.

It seems like everywhere you look in Cranberry these days there’s a crane or a bulldozer at work on a new development.

According to township figures, about $120 million worth of construction has been completed, is underway or is planned for Cranberry in 2012. About 1.25 million square feet of non-residential space will be added to the area this year, including construction of retail, restaurant, office and religious buildings.

For those curious about what’s under construction in Cranberry this month, we’ve put together a handy list—and some photos.

Courtyard by Marriott

The Hilton Garden Inn isn’t the only new hotel in town. A Courtyard by Marriott is well on the way to opening after being built from the ground up on Cranberry Woods Drive, just a stone’s throw from the already-established (and larger) Marriott Pittsburgh North on Route 228.

Designed with business travelers in minds, the Courtyard in Cranberry will be five stories and have 125 rooms. The Bistro, a spot for breakfast and coffee in the morning, and for dinner and drinks in the evening, will be located in the center of the lobby, according to the Marriott website. The hotel is scheduled to open in December 2012.

Cranberry Crossroads

Formerly a campground, work is getting closer to completion on the Cranberry Crossroads shopping center, a 98,940-square-feet retail space with a two-story Dick’s Sporting Goods store as its anchor.

Also calling the retail plaza home will be a Men’s Warehouse and La-Z-Boy Furniture. A GetGo gas station and car wash also is being built on the property along Route 228.

ECHO Realty, a Pittsburgh-based real estate and retail development company, is developing the shopping center. The Elmhurst Group also is building 90,000 square feet of business and professional office space in the same area. Once finished, the plaza will include pedestrian and bike paths. There also are plans for a gazebo, trees, shrubs, benches and other landscaping details required by the township’s streetscape enhancement ordinance.

Cranberry Crossroads is expected to be open by October.

Sheetz

It's Sheetz times two for Cranberry.

The Sheetz on Freedom Road is picking up and moving to a location 300 feet down the road. Construction is well underway on the new 6,558 square-foot, eight-pump Sheetz gas station and convenience store—plus a freestanding car wash—located at the site of a former beer distributor on Old Freedom Road. Sheetz leases its current property from J.J. Gumberg, a real estate development company that also owns the Cranberry Mall. Once the new gas station is ready, Sheetz will remove its signage and the underground distribution tanks that hold petroleum from the property.

The hillside at the intersection of Ehrman Road and Route 19 also has been graded in preparation for the Century Business Park, which will include a Sheetz gas station and convenience store. Sheetz also will help fund a traffic signal at the intersection of Ehrman Road and Route 19.

Victory Family Church

It’s hard to miss the large new addition under construction at Victory Family Church on Route 19. Work began on the 2,400 square-foot building, topped with a cross, in December. When finished, it will house a sanctuary with stadium seating. Pastor John Nuzzo has said he hopes the sanctuary will be finished by next May.

Fifth Avenue Fido

5th Avenue Fido, a luxury indoor kennel and doggie day care facility located along Route 19 in the former Northgate Honda building is expected to open this fall. Fifth Avenue Fido plans to offer dog training, including puppy, basic and socialization classes. Dog owners also may drop off their pups before they head to work at the facility’s doggie day care

The Sports Grille at Cranberry

A kid-friendly, sports-themed restaurant, The Sports Grille at Cranberry is expected to open at the former Uno’s Chicago Grill on Freedom Road on Sept. 1.

Owner Sean Pregibon said the restaurant will be a franchise of his former Youngstown Sports Grille in Ohio. The restaurant in Cranberry will feature traditional American fare ranging from wings and fries to baby-back ribs and specialty salads. The Sports Grille is now hiring. Applicants are asked to apply within the restaurant.
