Visions for Vacancy: What Should Move into the Former Dick’s Sporting Goods?

The sporting goods store has moved to a new location in the Cranberry Crossroads. What would you like to see happen to its former building?

The big business news in October was the opening of the new Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Cranberry Crossroads retail complex along Route 228.

The standalone venue features two floors and an expanded selection of merchandise.

But what about the store’s former location in the Cranberry Square Mall off Route 19?

There have been rumors of an LA Fitness moving into the building, as well as talk of an outdoors store occupying the space.

According to Dick’s Sporting Goods officials, nothing is in place for the former location—yet.

Pat Wolf, regional vice-president of Dick’s Sporting Goods, said the building would remain in the company. A future use for it still is to be determined, he said.

“We’re not getting rid of it,” he said.

In the meantime, we’d like to have some fun. With that in mind, what would you like to see fill the vacant spot.

Is there something that would benefit the Cranberry area community? How could this space better serve you and your neighbors?

Share your thoughts, ideas and concerns in the comments. Tell us what your vision is for this Cranberry Township vacancy.

I love Golden Corral! I was so sad when they pulled out of an earlier plan in Cranberry! I would love to see one here!

Have you ever been to a Golden Corral?? They are huge!!! In fact there might not be enough parking in the lot for a Golden Corral.

Definitely a LA fitness. YMCA too expensive and Anytime fitness too small.

I agree the YMCA is way too expensive. We considered getting a family membership this year and was amazed at the cost.....and decided against it!

Home goods or Trader joes.As much as I would like to see an LA Fitness, parking would be a huge problem, although parking is an issue regardless of what takes place of Dicks sporting goods

I'll echo some of the other comments - Cranberry planning officials - please read and take into consideration!?!
A store for OUTDOORS enthusiasts - REI, Cabela's Bass Pro, Gander Mountain, etc. Hobby Lobby. Macy's. Trader Joe's. No more restaurants.

LA Fitness would be cool, but I can also understand the desire for an Outdoor Enthusiasts store.

I love this. Build a building in a mall. Now, build a building in another location at another mall. Close previous building. Make sure original mall turns into Ghetto Land! Thanks progress!

Christmas Tree Shops, a division of Bed,Bath, and Beyond. A variety type store plus seasonal merchandise. I have emailed them a few times and suggested they open a store in western Pennsylvania. The closest one now in PA is in Erie. These stores are very popular. Check out their website, Bargains@christmastreeshops.com
I would love to see this store in our area!!

MTD - There is no need to be insulting to another commenter. Perhaps Marilyn meant "another store" in western Pennsylvania. Or maybe, like me, she thinks of Erie as northwestern Pennsylvania. Please show respect for others on the site.

After visiting the NEW Dick's over the weekend, I am more convinced than ever that we need a true outdoor enthusiast store - for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, kayaking, climbing, etc.. I just saw the same old tired hunting gear, limited selection and staff who have no knowledge of the outdoors. Same for the "new and improved" fly fishing area. There are just more over-priced clothes, and less "gear" all through the store, so you can at least look the part even if you don't have the equipment. Guess we'll keep our Cabela's catalog handy for now.

I agree with some above posters- Trader Joes in the old Kuhns and LA Fitness in the old Dick's.

BIg Lots would be wonderful, but I am with those who said Trader Joe's (my favorite grocery store). It would be so nice not having to drive to East LIberty each weekend.
