Visions for Vacancy: Here’s What You’d Like to See at the Former Kuhn’s Market

We got a number of responses, but there was one clear frontrunner.

On Thursday, we asked readers what they would like to see occupy the space at the former Kuhn’s Market. The grocery store in the Cranberry Mall on Route 19 closed in September and has been vacant ever since.

While we got a handful of comments on the site, the conversation really took off on the Cranberry Patch Facebook page.

Almost overwhelmingly, readers said they’d like to see Trader Joe’s move into the spot.

At least half of the 40 or so comments we got were in favor of bringing the specialty retail grocery store to Cranberry. Another popular choice was an L.A. Fitness, which is rumored to be coming to the area.

Ron Henshaw, Cranberry’s director of community development, said he hasn’t seen any plans for the gym chain—yet. Stick with Cranberry Patch and we’ll be the first to let you know about moves by L.A. Fitness into the area.

Other popular choices were a bowling alley, laser tag or an indoor sports facility. Readers also were crying out for more clothing options, including a J.Crew or a casual men’s clothing store.

“Now that I think about it, one thing Cranberry sorely lacks is anywhere to buy decent men's clothes,” commented reader Eileen Wrubel. “We have AT loft, WHBM, a couple stores where women can put together office attire. Not a fabulous selection, but at least a selection. There is no equivalent for men.”

Readers also had some fun with their nominations, jokingly suggesting a women's beach volleyball training facility or a bar with childcare.

What do you think about these suggestions? Share your thoughts, ideas and concerns in the comments. Tell us what your vision is for this Cranberry Township vacancy.

Does Eileen know about Joseph A. Banks? She said there were no decent men's clothing stores in Cranberry??

She did note on Facebook that she'd like to see more places for casual men's attire. I think Joseph A. Banks is more suits and jackets, right? What would you like to see?!

no, Joseph A. Banks has shorts, golf shirts, casual pants and shirts. Maybe, not t-shirts. But she did mention office attire for women and men not having the same option. I would def say Joseph A. Banks would be office attire clothing.

I would love a health food store, but I think something for the youth would be nice such as an indoor skate park.

How about Wegmans? their food is amazing, and I think they would seriously contend with Giant Eagle.
