Video: Cranberry Firefighters Mark 9/11 Anniversary with Ceremonial Groundbreaking
The department plans to build a memorial out of a twisted piece of World Trade Center steel.
Drawings were unveiled and ceremonial shovels turned over dirt Sunday as family and friends joined together at the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company's Park Station for the next step towards a permanent memorial for community.
The fire department is building the memorial around a twisted piece of steel that fell from the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 2001.
Firefighters are hoping to raise $50,000 for the project.
Anyone interested in giving to the memorial may go to the fire company’s website for information about how to donate. Firefighters hope to have the memorial complete by April 21, 2012.
