At least three people were taken to the hospital Sunday evening after a two-car accident on Route 19 near the intersection with Freeport Road.

Phil MacMillan, assistant fire chief at the Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department, said it appeared the driver of a Chevy Blazer smashed into the driver’s side of a four-door sedan at about 6:30 p.m.

MacMillan said it initially was believed the driver of the car, whose wife was in the passenger seat, was trapped in the vehicle. Authorities, however, were able to open the door to get him out of the car.

MacMillan said airbags deployed in the car as well as in the Blazer, which contained two women. No one appeared to have any serious injuries, the assistant chief said, although the driver of the car was shaken up.

“He was a little shaky, but he walked out of the car,” he said.

Northern Regional Police and state police also responded to the scene. Firefighters directed traffic on Route 19 until the crash was cleared at about 7:15 p.m.
