No children were injured after a Sports Utility Vehicle struck a Seneca Valley school bus loaded with students on their way to Rowan Elementary Monday morning.

The female driver of the white Ford Expedition was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh to be treated for a head laceration, according to Cranberry Police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino.

Mascellino said the woman is a Cranberry resident. Her name is unknown at this time.

There were 45 students on Bus 279 when the SUV stuck it on Franklin Road near the intersection of Beacon Hill Drive, according to Seneca Valley officials.

District spokeswoman Linda Andreassi said students on the bus were checked by EMTs and cleared. Guided by Rowan administrators, the students were transported onto a second bus and taken to school at about 9:20 a.m.

"Parents are being notified and the nurse at Rowan is speaking with each student to reinforce that they are fine," she said.

Franklin Road was shut down to a single lane while both vehicles were towed from the area.

Mascellino said the Cranberry woman was driving south on Franklin Road when she crossed the center line of the road and struck the left front tire of the bus, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

Police continue to investigate the accident. Mascellino said driver was not texting or calling on her cell phone at the time of the crash. Charges are unlikely in the incident, he said.
