Superintendent to Join Cranberry Manager for Coffee Date with the Public

Informal meetings will offer township manager Jerry Andree and Seneca Valley Superintendent Tracy Vitale a chance to meet township residents.

Jerry Andree will kick off his informal coffee dates with the public for 2012 with a very special guest on Saturday.

Seneca Valley Superintendent Tracy Vitale will join Andree from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Graham Central Coffee House and Café for a little Q&A with residents.

Andree said he invited Vitale, who became Seneca Valley’s superintendent in September, because of the benefits he sees in meeting with the public in an informal-style setting to address issues and hear people’s concerns. This is the third year in a row Andree has met with residents for coffee.

“I’ve found it to be a very positive experience,” he said. “People are very nice, and they’re very open.”

Although the gatherings started off taking place in coffee shops, the manager switched things up in 2011, meeting residents at different locations around the township. The goal was to allow the public to go behind the scenes in Cranberry to learn what makes the township tick.

Some of the meet-up spots included the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course, the Cranberry Police Department and the township’s traffic center.

“It was very successful,” Andree said of giving the public a peek at Cranberry’s inner workings. “We’ve had hundreds of people for these programs.”

For 2012, the first meeting, at least, is going back to its coffee-shop roots. In the future, Andree said he might revisit the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company’s stations with the public.

While no subject is off-limits, Andree said business and development in the township is a popular topic with residents.

“One of the No. 1 issues is what’s going in and what stores are coming,” he said. “There’s certainly a lot of interest in new businesses.”
