Super Bowl Poll: Ravens vs. Niners—For Whom Should a Steelers Fan Root?
Ugh, tough decision. Is having a Ray Lewis win or allowing the 49ers to match Pittsburgh in Super Bowl rings the lesser of two hard choices? We’ll let you decide.
We know, we know, it’s hard for Steelers fans to root for any team that isn’t theirs in the Super Bowl—especially when one of those teams is the Ravens.
Still, either Baltimore or the San Francisco 49ers has to win Sunday’s big game in New Orleans. And we want to know, is it better to give the win to the Ravens and Ray Lewis (shudder) or the Niners.
If the Ravens win, well, no true Steelers fan wants that to happen. It also would give the legendary linebacker Lewis—he of the murder trial and now deer antler spray controversy—a final win before he retires. Can you say yuck?
Ray-Ray, now that you’re retiring, can you promise we’ll never have to see you dance to “Hot in Herre” when you step on the field at M&T Bank Stadium ever again?
On the other hand, if the 49ers win, they’ll join the Steelers in having the most Lombardi trophies in NFL history. Indeed, San Francisco is using the “Quest for Six” as the team’s slogan as they try to nab their sixth Super Bowl title.
Personally, we at Patch don’t think that’s nearly as catchy as “One for the Other Thumb.” And if you didn’t get that reference, your blood doesn’t run black and gold!
Tell us, is it better to root for Lewis and the Ravens or the 49ers in the Super Bowl? Can you even stomach cheering for one of them? Take our poll or leave your opinion in the comment section below.

We expect journalists, print and otherwise, to know the rule.
Correct: "Whom Should a Steeler Fan Vote For [...]"
Incorrect: "Who Should a Steeler Fan Vote For [...],"

I am cheering for the 9'ers because 1. I lived and and grew up around the youngstown, ohio area and the 9'ers are owned by the local Debartolo family. And 2. Because as I said, I was born and raised in Ohio so I am a die hard browns fan and the ravens establishment took our team away from Cleveland! GO 9'ers!!!

Oh, Giacomo. It's good to hear it right from the horse's mouth. Sometimes we editors get so excited about the story, we get a little lax on the grammar rules because we are feeling conversational with our readers. But you are right. Whom goes with For. Actually, we changed the headline to say "For Whom" so we didn't leave a preposition hanging out there. Thanks for spotting it ... and congratulations on the 2005 Kentucky Derby.

Cindy, thanks for remembering that great race. My life has changed quite a bit since then. My current activities are still very tiring, but in a completely different way.
