On Monday, Seneca Valley officials honored retiring crossing guard Patty Kauffman, who was a fixture at Rowan Elementary School on Rowan Road for 28 years.

As she accepted a plaque topped with an apple from superintendent Dr. Donald Tylinski, Kauffman got teary-eyed.

The Cranberry resident said her own children attended Rowan Elementary before graduating from Seneca Valley High School.

"Now I have grandchildren," she said.
