Seneca Valley Doesn’t Renew A.D. Contract, Hires New Assistant Superintendent

The district is searching for a replacement for Greg Caprara, who was with the district for eight years.

An acting athletic director and a new assistant superintendent were among close to half a dozen new appointments Seneca Valley School Board members approved Monday.

A former sixth-grade teacher at Evans City Middle School with experience coaching track, cross country and football, William Roccia was named interim athletic director as a rate of $250 per day.

He replaces Greg Caprara, whose contract will not be renewed when it expires Friday, according to the district.

“It simply was a decision by district officials to go in a different direction,” said Linda Andreassi, Seneca Valley’s director of communications.

Caprara joined the district in 2004. Prior to that, he served as interim athletic director at the Fox Chapel Area School District.

“We wish Mr. Caprara well,” Andreassi said.

The board also promoted Dr. Sean McCarty, principal at Seneca Valley Middle School, to assistant superintendent of elementary education at a salary of $117,000.

McCarty replaces Jeffrey Fuller, who on July 1 begins a new position as superintendent of the Freedom Area School District in Beaver County.

McCarty, of Adams Township, has been with the Seneca Valley for 16 years. He started as a special education teacher at the district before becoming assistant principal at Seneca Valley Middle School. In 2007, he was named the school’s principal.

Andrea Peck, assistant principal at the middle school, will act as principal until a permanent replacement for McCarty is found. She will receive a stipend total of $1,000 for the role, according to the district. Andreassi said Seneca Valley expects to hire a new middle school principal before the start of the 2012-13 school year.

Dr. Sandra Krivak-Fowler also was promoted Monday to principal of Evans City Middle School. A Zelienople resident, Fowler replaces Thomas Hallman, who retired earlier in June.

Fowler—who previously served as an elementary school principal with the Plum and Franklin Regional school districts—was assistant principal of the Evans City elementary and middle schools for the last two years before Seneca Valley officials eliminated her position during this year’s budgeting process.

Her new post will pay a salary of $97,000 per year.

Formerly an assistant principal at Seneca Valley Senior High School, Jeffrey Roberts was named assistant principal of Seneca Valley Cyber for grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Roberts’ assistant principal position, which will not be filled, also was eliminated in the budgeting process for the 2012-13 school year.

His salary as assistant principal for the cyber school is $90,000.

The search is now on for a permanent replacement to fill Caprara’s shoes. The district already has received lots of interest in the position, Andreassi said. A timeline for hiring a new A.D has not been set, she said.
