Cranberry area residents hankering for a new place to get a seafood dinner may be in luck.

At Thursday’s Cranberry Board of Supervisors meeting, officials will accept public comment on an inter-municipal liquor license transfer for a proposed new Red Lobster restaurant to be located on Route 19.

Ron Henshaw, Cranberry’s director of community development, said the Red Lobster would replace the King’s Family Restaurant at 20117 Route 19, in the Cranberry Mall.

The King’s restaurant would be torn down, he said. The new Red Lobster would be built from the ground up in its place.

Following any public testimony offered at Thursday’s meeting, supervisors will consider voting on the liquor license transfer.

Henshaw said land development plans for the Red Lobster also would be reviewed at the Oct. 29 Planning Advisory Commission meeting set for 5:30 p.m. at the municipal center.

Plans for the restaurant are still tentative at this point. The King's restaurant remains open, and there are no dates for when it might close and construction on a new Red Lobster might start.

Henshaw said developers for Red Lobster likely will wait until both the liquor license transfer and the land development applications are approved before moving forward with plans for the new building.

The property King’s sits on is owned by LG Realty Advisors, which also owns the Cranberry Mall. Brian Gumberg, principal and managing member of LG Realty Advisors, could not immediately be reached for comment.

What do you think of proposed plans for the Red Lobster? Would you miss the King’s Family Restaurant? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

While it would be nice, I would miss King's for Breakfast in the morning. I'm also concerned about parking, as Kings has a small parking lot. Will parking be extended into the Cranberry Mall Lot, ,and pedestrians have to cross traffic to get to the restaurant???

I think Red Lobster is as bland as it gets, Olive Garden on Seafood but I also know a lot of people eat there. The parking would definitely be an issue. People avoid that shopping center now because of the parking mess w/o a popular national chain restaurant in the mix.

Kings has been there for generations? So what. Their food is average-at-best and if you want family restaurant dining we already have Denny's, Perkins and Eat-n-Park to choose from who's food is far better. Also, Ichiban and International are not seafood places. Just because they sell some seafood doesn't make them a seafood restaurant!

It would be nice since the King's quality is going down hill. We need something new in the area. I heard King's is going on Rt. 228. It would have been nice for the Cracker Barrel, or Kentucky Chicken/Taco Bell would come to Cranberry.

Yes enough McDonalds, Subway,if we're going to have fast food it would be nice to not have to go all the way to McKnight for Kentucky Fried/Taco Bell & have been waiting forever for Cracker Barrel, with Cranberry being right off the interstate & turnpike I am surprised there isn't one there already they are usually always off major roads like those!

Me and several other people I know that live here have been wanting a Taco Bell/KFC in Cranberry for years. We have three McDonalds, two Burger Kings and four Subways but not one KFC or Taco Bell.

I checked with the township and they said they haven't heard anything about King's relocating. The leasing manager for Cranberry Crossroads also said King's is not moving there ... but DID say there are restaurants interested in the space. Unfortunately, she said she couldn't discuss any details until a lease is signed. Stay tuned!

I know it's a chain restaurant, but I enjoy Red Lobster and I'll be glad just to have a new option on 19!

What traffic is everyone one talking about in the mall parking lot? It's not like folks have to cross route 19. There's hardly any traffic in the upper part of that lot and there's plenty of unused parking there. I do agree that it's silly to put Red Lobster in the King's location when there are much more suitable locations on 228. But it could also be in an effort to liven up that area with something new and different. And it's a seafood place that's not Asian.

I was told it will be Kings and Long John Silvers...(or whatever the place is beside them) that will be lost for Red Lobster. I am disappointed. While Kings is certainly going downhill, (management cannot run it properly) and the GM certainly cannot cook an egg to save his life, it is a great place to just socialize. My sons first job was at Kings about 18 years ago. There are a few great waitress's there that have been there since back then. They will be missed. I also hear that Cracker Barrel will soon be joining Cranberry Point. Any clue on if that is true or not? That would be totally awesome. We need a Cracker Barrel and an Ihop!!! Kings, (and those few waitress's, you know who you are) will be greatly missed!!

ewww! I've never eaten at a Red Lobster and never will. Low quality seafood; that's why it's inexpensive. Cracker Barrel would have done an outstanding business; nothing else like it around here. But they definitely would have needed more parking spaces; hopefully CB is one of the restaurants looking at 228 location.

I heard that Cracker Barrel is looking at the site of the former Baldingers building. Not sure if it is true......that is just what I heard!

They should build it right in the north east corner of the parking lot and leave Kings where it is. Nobody used that part of the parking lot anyway. Except for Giggle, the plaza is dying a slow death. Everything is out 228. Why not put it in where Kuhns used to be. That has been sitting empty for over a year at least.

NOT A RED LOBSTER FAN! It's Cheap sea food at best. I ate at the one on Mcknight 3 or 4 times over the years and it was always bad. Cracker Barrel would be a great fit in Cranberry!

I think a Red Lobster would be a great addition to Cranberry. I do enjoy King's for breakfast but lets face it...we have Denny's and Eat N Park which are just about the same thing. I hate having to drive to Butler or Mcknight for Red Lobster. Cranberry also is in desperate need of a Bruegger's Bagels!

I'm not a fan of chain restaurants, I guess that's what you get in the suburbs though, I'd love to see more independent restaurants. I guess I can dream......

If you like Indian food, Mirchi in Cranberry is excellent. It is in that plaza with Domino Pizza.

According to all reports, this season, lobsters are in some over abundance and the lobstermen who work long, hard and dangerous hours, are getting a pittance for their efforts. Yet this mediocre chain does not seem to reduce their prices. Keep sucking in excessive profits ,"Red Lobster", but not likely from me, whereever you locate. If I crave a lobster it will be from an independent restaurant that is a lot better, anyway.

This is GREAT NEWS!!! Red Lobster is an enormous improvement over King's and anyone that would argue otherwise is probably one of those "resistant to change" people that are miserable about everything. King's is probably the lowest quality restaurant in Cranberry, and to see it torn down and replaced by Red Lobster would be amazing. People who want a good family restaurant where they can socialize are so much better off going to Eat n Park. This is a great thing for Cranberry!!

In total agreement. I'm amazed that some people here are actually against this. Red Lobster may not be a five-star restaurant by any stretch of the imagination but it is miles away better than Kings!!

Then Red Lobster should quit charging high prices for lobster when those that bust their chops catching them are getting a pittance. I avoid chains as much as possible
and this mediocre outfit is among them. I prefer true local owned/operated restaurants of which we have many that beat these. Never been to King's so I have no opinion on them. And if sushi is not seafood, what is - Long John
Silver's slop?

Who the hell said sushi is not seafood? Again, the very few Asian cuisine restaurants we have here are not considered a seafood restaurant solely like Red Lobster! That's almost as dumb as saying that McDonalds can be considered a seafood place because of their fliet o fish sandwich.

Looking for a 'non-chain' restaurant that is delicious, inexpensive and convenient? Try Marty's. You may be surprised to know they have a very nice restaurant that is totally separate from their bar. The portions are huge and the prices are great. We get so tired of the chain restaurants ourselves. Another great choice is GoodFellas in Zelienople. Lets hear it for great food, great prices, great service and all from the little guy.

As a former employee of Kings I am sad to seeit go. I remember when it did booming business and for those who say Eat n Park is better...you are crazy...Eat n Park NEVER changes their menu and their food is not that great. And also folks that Eat n Park is over the county line so u pay the 7% tax on your meal as opposed to the 6% at the Kings. If Kings hadnt allowed one of their nasty Managers (Carla) to run off all the good employees and therefore regular customers...they would still be doing a decent amount of business. Red Lobster isnt going to change the amount of traffic into that plaza...its nasty and overpriced...and again will be losing a part of original Cranberry History.
