Powell Road Bridge to be Restricted to Single Lane
The aging bridge will be replaced next year.
Starting Monday, Feb. 25, traffic will be restricted to a single lane on the Butler County-owned Brush Creek Bridge along Powell Road in Cranberry.
The deteriorating 75-year old span, which already was scheduled for replacement in 2014, was further damaged Oct. 6 when a SUV heading west on Powell Road struck the eastbound side of the bridge and damaged one of the abutments.
While the bridge will remain open to all traffic, it will be narrowed to a single 14-foot lane with stop signs posted at either end.
The currently posted weight restriction remains unchanged. Vehicles will take turns moving in alternate directions, a statement from the township said.
Cranberry's Public Works department will erect jersey barriers to form a single lane by Monday, weather permitting.
That restriction will remain in place until a replacement bridge is built and opened to traffic.
The new bridge will include a pedestrian walkway and two lanes for vehicle traffic. The walkway will form an integral link in Cranberry’s bicycle-pedestrian circulation plan, township officials have said.

I'm really confused by the picture in this story. What is that building on the right? We go by there frequently and I'm not aware of a building at the intersection of Powel and Glen Eden roads.

Bill, that is actually the rear of the billboard on Glen Eden that faces the Turnpike.
