Students who met or surpassed their reading goals were treated to a remote-controlled racing event at the school.
Haine Elementary’s little readers got rewarded in a big way Friday.
As part of “Race into Reading,” the school’s yearlong literacy program to encourage students to read at home and in the classroom, students in classrooms that met or surpassed their reading goals for the semester were treated to a day at the races.
Ready-Set-Race, LLC of Cranberry brought their portable racetrack and remote control cars to the school as a special treat. The owners' children, Eliana and Joshua Downing, attend Haine.
Principal Michelle Ellis said all classrooms in kindergarten through fourth grade were encouraged to log the minutes they read every night to meet, or exceed, their classroom goals as part of the Racing into Reading program.
The classrooms that reached or surpassed their goals were then entered into a random drawing to win an opportunity to take part in the RC Racing event.
The races were held at different times throughout the day Friday. Click on the photos to check out Haine’s reading racers.
