A snap Red Keystone survey of GOP activists in Pennsylvania by Patch shows strong support for U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s choice for running mate.
Ryan as vice presidential nominee will help galvanize Republican voters in the Keystone State, according to more than two-thirds of respondents.
More than half also say Ryan will help the GOP ticket win undecided voters.
Respondents aren’t concerned that Democrats can win by running against Ryan's existing budget plans and particularly his proposal for Medicare.
Several respondents noted that Ryan will help the GOP win young voters. But one Republican commented, “I don't believe that a VP pick ultimately changes elections. Perhaps the last time it did was in 1960.”
Here are other comments on Ryan from Pennsylvania Republicans who replied to an automated survey sent by Patch:
- He is a man with a substantive fiscal plan, the best hope for a truly honest discussion of our fiscal problems. Unlike almost all other politicians, he calls a spade a spade.
- His 14 years in Congress gives insight, strength and balance to Romney's experience as a governor.
- It takes the focus of the race to the economy, which will help Romney.
- It sends a clear message that a President Romney will be serious about tackling the deficit.
- This may galvanize the ‘Audit the Fed’ crowd, but unless they come forward with real fiscal arguments that reasonable voters can accept and convince people the deficit must be solved, they will not be able to get much traction in Pennsylvania.
- Rep. Ryan brings a clear vision to a campaign that, so far, had been severely lacking in detail.
- Returns discussion to fiscal policy, not tax returns.
- He is a fiscal conservative. He has the fullest understanding of any possible candidate of the breadth and scope of the fiscal disaster and the resulting crash in our economy and the crushing of our individual liberty and freedom.
Our surveys are not a scientific random sample of any larger population but rather an effort to listen to a swath of influential local political activists, party leaders and elected officials in Pennsylvania.
All of these individuals have agreed to participate in the surveys, although not all responded to questions Saturday about U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan.
Patch will be conducting Red Keystone and Blue Keystone surveys throughout 2012 in hopes of determining the true sentiment of conservatives and liberals on the ground in Pennsylvania.
If you are an activist, party leader or elected official and would like to take part in occasional surveys that last just a few minutes, please email Cindi.Lash@patch.com or Timothy.McAteer@patch.com

Ryan is an ideologue, but he always seemed to me to be someone that you can have an intelligent discussion with even if you don't agree with his positions. I think he would better serve the country by staying in the house, because his talents will be wasted as Vice President under a Mitt Romney.
Romney has sold his soul to try and become President, and Ryan's input into a Romney Presidency will be overshadowed by what Romney owes these people. His economic proposals are pure fantasy that will blow up the deficit, and benefit no one except for his ultra-rich contributors.

So, the national debt is worse, we get healthcare that our own president and lawmakers don't even want, jobs are not being created. Listen to what he promised for "change" and he's just as guilty for not keeping his word. His change is costing us even more. Not what I want for myself or my children in the future. Wake up people. Here is a very good, nonpartisan article explaining federal spending. It is a fact that federal spending under Obama was much less than previous presidents. This is not to completely credit Obama with lower spending, or even advocate the lower spending; it is just a fact.
"Although there was a big stimulus bill under Obama, federal spending is rising at the slowest pace since Dwight Eisenhower brought the Korean War to an end in the 1950s."

Please remember that both parties are trying to demonize the opposition. A budget for federal spending is already set by the previous president for the first year of a new presidential term. The article above explains this very well without a political leaning.

Today on the news they were talking about the voucher system that the Republicans want to put in to effect. They were even interviewing Seniors in Florida that were all for vouchers. They have worse healthcare in Florida and for seniors to choose an insurance company and pay lower deductibles. One lady said it was costing her 600 a month for prescription drugs because Medicare and her health insurance didn't pay for it. She also said she was a registered Democrat and they did the interview at a Walgreens.

Oh that’s right, there are only Democrats that don’t have a valid ID and are poor and elderly. That’s why the Republicans want this law. What is everybody so afraid of? There is plenty of time to get the proper ID. I’ll bet if you needed proper id for Free food or housing that people would be breaking down the doors to apply for the ID.
Art why don’t you instead of taking the word of these political commercials, do your own research on Bain.
Even President Obama’s supporters acknowledge this isn’t true. Steve Rattner, President Obama’s former car czar, said that Governor Romney was the “furthest thing” from a corporate raider. Governor Deval Patrick rejected the characterization of Bain Capital as a raider and said that Bain was a “perfectly fine company” with “a role in the private economy.” The truth is that Governor Romney wasn’t tearing down companies; he was building up companies like Staples, Sports Authority, Steel Dynamics, and Bright Horizons.
Obama has no record (that is positive anyway) to stand on. He is betting on people just taking his word for the things that are said. What about all the failed companies that Obama put our tax money into that failed. at least 6 that I can think of. you can start at the Solyndra bankruptcy.

There are just as many Republicans that did the same thing, but you don't hear them crying, only the poor democrats. There are many states for the last 10 years that have had to show Photo ID to vote and the system works great. All of obama's commercials are a bunch of lies. I had someone call from the Democrats tonight doing a survey on obama's lies and I shut the lady up on the phone with facts that are true and how obama lies. She didn't know what to say and I was on the phone for over a hour discussing all of his lies. I am a Republican product of the success of Social Programs that were designed to be a "Hand Up" not a "Hand Out". I applaud the efforts of Paul Ryan whose call for reducing Big Govenrment Spending is not meant to be an axe to the hope of the disabled and poor, but a recognition that all things must be paid for and that people who are accustomed to receiving things for nothing must now pay the price.
It has been almost 25 years since I graduated from College. I worked full time at a Department Store while going to College. Eventually, the 40 hours of work and fulltime college status, destroyed a body that had been disabled from a chronic illness since childhood. Now, I am a fully employed and contributing member of Society. I FULLY intended to be a contributor, not a taker once I graduated. I have given back far more than I have ever taken from from Social Security.
People like Paul Ryan strive to protect programs for the needy while removing waste and DEMANDING that the healthy and able WORK. Unless you have been on one of these programs, You haven't seen the waste and the the people who choose to milk them instead of becoming gainfully employed.
Mitt Romney has my vote and Paul Ryan was a choice that cemented my option of Mitt Romney

Marcy you are so correct in what your saying. Congratulations to all you accomplished in your life. One thing I noticed in life it is the Republicans that do the volunteering and the Democrats with their hands out. I would love to see Romney/Ryan get all the fakers off Social Security and off welfare. The truly disabled and older Americans are the only ones that should be getting Social Security, Medicare and Welfare. Not the ones that fake injuries but can go golfing, run marathons, take lavish vacations that milk our system. Social Security, Medicare and Welfare all need overhauling and Romney/Ryan are the right people to get fakers off it and to get Americans back working again. Plus anyone that is in our country illegally shouldn't be allowed any type of help.

@cc... If I were you, I would read Manhunt by Peter Bergen. It's a fascinating account about the 10-year search for OBL and the planning for the mission. The SEAL operators obviously did an amazing job, but it also was the information attained by the NSA and CIA that helped lead them to the Abbottabad compound. Admiral McRaven's planning of the mission was impeccable and the decision to go was very risky. I wouldn't praise any one person or aspect of the mission to kill bin Laden. It was a team effort that showed the very best of the federal government.

Golly cc - your memory is short. It was not Obama that put all those military lives in jeopardy because he did not begin a stupid and not needed war based on fabricated false information and flat out lies. The trouble with him now is, that he did not end it when he should have and did send more people in to be maimed and killed as they still do this week. If the military does not vote him, it is because of this, not due to the two contenders for the White House who want it to keep going and extend it even further.

Obama did not want to hid it as he made an announcement right after it happened. Also in one of his commercials he has pictures of Seal Team 6 in action on how he killed Bin Laden. obama can't keep national secrets. It is a very interesting video but you just want to talk about the book Manhunt, which btw is an awesome book. Even Seal Team 6 says that obama didn't kill Bin Laden. ml is great quoting other people's words from blog sites.

As for Seal Team Six saying Obama didn't kill OBL. Well, obviously. Only one person executed bin Laden. But the SEAL operators also refused to acknowledge to Obama (or anyone else) which one of them pulled the trigger (twice). That's because they consider it a team effort. Just like I consider it an incredible accomplishment by our intelligence agencies, administration and military. All had to work in unison to bring that mass murderer to justice.

Since there are not enough rabid right wingers in swing states to elect such Republicans, the party is trying to simply exclude anyone who can't afford new photo ID's, namely the low income minorities and seniors who are unlikely to vote Republican.
