Motorcyclist Injured in Freedom Road Crash

Traffic was tied up for about an hour Friday as police and fire crews cleared the accident from the roadway.

Traffic was tied up for about an hour Friday afternoon after a motorcycle and car collided on busy Freedom Road near the lower entrance to the Cranberry Mall.

Cpl. William Ahlgren the motorcyclist driving east on Freedom Road at about 3 p.m. when he collided with the Honda CRV, which was turning left from Freedom Road into entrance of the mall.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to land underneath the front of the SUV, Ahlgren said.

“The gentleman fell underneath the car for a little bit after he was hit,” Ahlgren said.

Ahlgren said the rider, whose name police do not know yet, was conscious and talking when emergency responders arrived on the scene. The man appeared to have some abrasions and a severe wound to his right arm, Ahlgren said.

He was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Ahlgren said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car was shaken-up but uninjured, Ahlgren said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Hello, my name is Marti Aiken. I was at the scene of the accident-I was one of the first ones to arrive seconds after the accident and sat by and talked to Jerry, the man who was on the motorcycle, until Paramedics arrived. Can anyone please update me on how he is doing? I saw the above comment and didn't want to believe that it was in regards to him. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Marti, Thank you for your kindness and staying with Jerry following the accident. I'm sorry to say that Jerry passed away shortly after at the hospital. Jerry was my cousin's husband. I will share your concern with his family. Thank you again for your kindness.

I am very sad to hear this as well. I was also at the shopping plaza when this occurred. I have been praying and my thoughts have been with the family since it has happened. God bless them all. I have a heavy heart as I am sure Father's Day today is an especially hard day for them.
