Folks heading away for the holidays now have new boarding option for their pooches.

After months of construction, 5th Avenue Fido, a luxury doggie day care center and indoor kennel, opens Monday off Route 19 in Cranberry.

Located in the former Northgate Honda building, the facility offers what owner Linda Beard calls “guilt-free” boarding.

5th Avenue Fido also will offer dog training, including puppy, basic and socialization classes. Dog owners may drop off their pups before they head to work at the facility’s doggie day care. There also will be dog-grooming services at the building.

Inside, the kennel features separate dog “houses,” complete with siding and roofs, in the building’s “Residential” and “Fifth Avenue” sections.

Beard, of Cranberry, said 5th Avenue Fido is not a traditional dog kennel in that there are no chain link runs, no cages and no concrete blocks at the facility. The floors also are made out of rubber to be easier on the dogs’ joints, she said.

She added the dogs would not be locked in their rooms for most of the day. Instead, they will be in supervised play areas.

To get customers, and their pups, familiar with the facility, 5th Avenue Fido is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. There also will tours of the facility during an open house from 12 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3.

After fielding inquires for months from curious pet owners, Beard said she is excited to open the business. She already has booked a dog training session, she said.

“The word of mouth has just been unreal,” she said.
