Jackie Evancho Performs in 'Bouquet of the Opera' Concert in Russia
She performed in the opening ceremony for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
In St. Petersburg's historic Palace Square, 12-year-old singing star Jackie Evancho took the stage Wednesday to perform for the Russian people and leaders from around the world.
Her appearance at the opening ceremony for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum was part of a "Bouquet of the Opera" concert that also featured opera singers Dmitri Hvorostovsky of Russia and Sumi Jo of South Korea.
Sarah Hicks, the principal conductor of pops and presentations for the Minnesota Orchestra, directed the symphony orchestra.
"Thank You St. Petersburg Russia for treating me so kindly. I LOVED performing for you!!!! :)" Jackie tweeted after the concert.
In an earlier tweet, she wrote: "St Petersburg Russia is beautiful. Im looking forward to singing tonght with Sumi Jo :)"
At about the same time, she also sent a tweet to Sharon Osbourne, one of the hosts of the America's Got Talent TV show on which Jackie rocketed to fame two summers ago.
Osbourne's son, Jack, was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
"@MrsSOsbourne I wanted to let you know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers. We love you!" the tweet from Jackie said.
Viewing the Concert
For fans back home, Jackie's performance was just a live-stream away as they linked to a Russian website to watch the rehearsal and then the concert.
Fellow performer Sumi Jo tweeted: "Ready to go on the stage! Wz sweet Jackie Evancho." She also tweeted a picture of the two of them together in cream-colored gowns.
Fans on Facebook watched the concert together, commented on portions of the show. http://www.facebook.com/groups/musicofjackieevancho/382556425142194/?notif_t=group_activity

Jackie Evancho takes Russia... by Charm! To say Jackie's performance in St. Petersburg was historic is true, but also an understatement in terms of the impact she made on the Russians and perhaps millions more globally. The ripple effect of her triumphant introduction to this part of the world is just beginning.
This was an amazing opportunity for Jackie to shine, and shine she did, in spades. She demonstrated her incredible talent and joyful, charismatic personality on this world stage throughout all six songs chosen, no doubt, to showcase her wide range, vocal artistry, and her ability to handle anything and everything she decides to take on.
When one considers all of the great things that may come to Jackie as a result of this singular event it becomes even more apparent that the world is indeed her oyster. I cannot find the words to describe how happy I am for Jackie and the entire Evancho family. Things just keep getting better, and better, and better for Team Evancho. And no one deserves all of the best the world has to offer than Jackie and her loving family.
I feel incredibly blessed to watch Jackie come into her own at this early time in what will be a very long, successful career. for America's Sweetheart and national treasure.

The six songs Jackie performed in ST. Petersburg were:
The Lord's Prayer

Imaginer
The Prayer
Con Te Partiro (Duet with Sumi Jo)
All of Jackie's songs here, except the duet, can be found on her "Dream With Me." CD.

Can someone tell me the names of the songs please?
Also, can someone translate what Dmitri says in the interview and rehearsal? Or is he just going on about Vodka?

Addendum. After a bit of searching and trying various word combinations to bring up some sort of return that contained more 'signal' than 'noise', I managed to find a video clip that told me the answer to one of the above songs, namely Johann Strauss II Voices of Spring [Frühlingstimmen] Op.410.
There's a few clips of it, but here's one, of a recording in 1993: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8rOr8yZrEU
Sumi Jo has if anything gotten even better. What a mentor for Jackie to tap into. I'll have to work the other one out another day.
It's a challenge for someone who knows neither opera nor anything other than snippets of foreign language - and that mostly courtesy of humorous usage: that is, my baseline is not zilch, but may as well be for an exercise like this, meaning I have to bootstrap all the way), unless someone can help.

A separate comment. I was most impressed with the way Dmitri and especially Sumi interacted with Jackie. Sumi's interaction during their duet was especially touching. I had the impression she's smitten with Jackie and truly cared about what for Jackie must have been a significant learning experience. Indeed I had the impression that both Sumi and Dmitri recognised the significance of this learning experience for her.
I hope this is the beginning of an ongoing friendship/mentoring experience for Jackie. I would hope also that she gets one day to meet Anna Netrebko. Another woman, who like Sumi, presents with a delightful personality that matches her talent. What matters after all, much more than any fascination we may have with Jackie, is her life and development.

I wish the very best for Jackie Evancho in her career...and for her happiness in life. What a talent; what a child! I am amazed at the profusion of praise that is constantly and deservedly directed to Jackie on the internet and elsewhere. But, this is a family project where the other members are also deserve praise for their own sacrifices and contributions, often in ways we don't know. So, take a bow, Jacob, Zachary, and Rachel, you deserve them! I didn't mention the parents here because, as all parents know, their contribution goes without saying! Lol
