Hartwood Acres Welcomes Holiday Season With a 'Walk Through the Lights'

The seventh annual event allows people to walk through the park and enjoy its celebration of lights.

Visitors can walk through Hartwood Acres' famous UPMC Celebration of Lights  tonight to see the bigger-than-life lighted displays of Santa, his reindeer, bears, toy soldiers and much more up close and beautiful.

The Allegheny County Parks Department is playing host to "Walk through the Lights" at the 629-acre park in Hampton and Indiana townships.

This is a walk or run purely for fun -- no stopwatches needed.

Free glow sticks and jingle bells will be provided to all participants. Refreshments will be available along the way.

The path is a 3.2-mile loop with several shortcuts built in that reduce the distance to as little as 2.5 miles. The path will be closed to vehicles on this day.

Parking will be available at the Hampton Township Municipal Complex parking lots at 3101 McCully Road in Allison Park. Shuttles will operate abouut every two minutes from 5 to 9 p.m. The last shuttle will leave the park at 10 p.m.

The suggested donation is $10 per person, $5 per student or $20 per family. Donations benefit Project Bundle-Up, the Salvation Army, the Woodlands Foundation and other local charities.

The UPMC Celebration of Lights will be open Nov. 18 through Jan. 8.
