Getting to Know: Dr. Sean McCarty, Seneca Valley Assistant Superintendent for K-6

The father of three says it was one of his own teachers who inspired him to go into education.

The Seneca Valley school year started Tuesday, and with it came a host of new faces in different roles around the district.

To help you get to know your educators a bit better, Cranberry Patch is launching “New Faces,” a series of mini-profiles. Today, we feature Dr. Sean McCarty, assistant superintendent of instruction for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Name: Dr. Sean McCarty

Position: Assistant Superintendent, Elementary.

What position did you hold before joining SV in your new role?

Principal at Seneca Valley Middle School

Tell us about your new role at Seneca Valley. What are your goals for the school year? What are you most excited about?

I am extremely proud to be a member of the Seneca Valley team and look forward to this exciting opportunity. This district has made outstanding progress in recent years and continues to provide students wonderful opportunities to grow into successful young men and women.

One of my most important goals is to work collaboratively with our many outstanding educators so that we may take this district to the next level of excellence. This position affords me the chance to work with all of our buildings across the district and provide new and exciting opportunities for our students.

We want to get to know you better. Tell us about your life outside the district. Any fun hobbies?

I have been married to my wife for 15 years and have three beautiful children.

The vast majority of my free time is spent with my family involved in numerous sports and activities. I also really enjoy any activity that enables me to be around water and the outdoors.

What is your own favorite school memory?

It is difficult to narrow down all of the fond memories. One memory that stands out was Mr. Vrana’s math class. That was the year I decided I wanted to be a teacher and I never looked back.
