Food Fight: Cranberry Newcomer Nabs Top Spot with Soup
Graham Central Station Coffee House & Cafe is new on the Cranberry scene, but it's already planting its flag in the local dining scene. The cafe's Creamy Tomato Basil soup wins the Patch poll for best soup in town.
You know that can of tomato soup in the pantry? The one that, when opened and deployed into the saucepan, looks pretty much like a serving of tomato pudding?
That is not the kind of thing that wins beauty contests or inspires people to write love notes about it to Patch.
But the Creamy Tomato Basil soup at Graham Central Station Coffee House & Cafe is just that kind of pretty soup. By all accounts, it is the Heidi Klum of tomato soup. Yes, we know: there may be more of-the-moment leggy supermodels out there than Heidi, but we don't know their names.
The soup is the creation of Graham Central manager and chef Cindy Reott. We don't know if she's ever been a supermodel, but we get the feeling she knows her way around a bubbling cauldron of goodness.
Cafe owner Tracy Weaver says the soup became an instant favorite when the cafe opened three weeks ago.
"We make a couple gallons of it a day," said Tracy. "We're always making it."
The soup won the local competition with 48 percent of the vote, which leads us to believe that Cranberry soup lovers have razor-sharp homing instincts. The cafe's been open less than a month, and yet you found it and found the best soup in town.
Next time we lose our other dangly feather earring, we're calling you guys.
