Five Things You Need to Know this Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community—including the Cranberry CUP kickoff party and softball tournament.

1. Cranberry Planning Advisory Commission

Get the scoop on what developments are in the works for Cranberry. The commission meets at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Cranberry Township Municipal Building on Rochester Road. On the agenda are proposed plans for a new neighborhood consisting of houses and townhomes at the intersection of Freshcorn and Glen Eden roads.

2. Cranberry Board of Supervisors Meeting

Find out in person what’s going on in township government. Cranberry’s board of supervisors will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday inside council chambers at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center.

3. Cranberry CUP Golf Tournament

Celebrate the start of the nonprofit Cranberry CUP softball tournament with this four-person golf scramble at the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course. Registration for the event begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday with tee-off time at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $520 per neighborhood or open foursome. All proceeds go to the 2012 Cranberry CUP beneficiaries.

4. Cranberry CUP Kickoff Party

The kickoff party from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course is where the nonprofit Cranberry CUP introduces the local “inspirational family.” This year’s beneficiaries are 8-year-old Cheyannia Marburger, who has an inoperable brain tumor, and her family. The evening includes a buffet, cash bar and entertainment from a local band. Many gift baskets also are raffled off at this event.

5. Cranberry CUP Opening Ceremony

Let the games begin! For many, the opening ceremony to the Cranberry CUP softball tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cranberry Community Park is the highlight of the event. This year’s inspirational family, including little Cheyannia Marburger, will be welcomed onto the fields by hundreds of softball players, their families, local officials and volunteers. The ceremony kicks off the neighborhood softball tournament, the Cranberry CUP’s signature fundraiser, which pits different neighborhoods and businesses against each other in a friendly competition. Don’t miss out!
