Five Things You Need to Know This Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

 

1. Dining to Donate for VOICe

Join Victim Outreach Intervention Center at North Park Lounge on Tuesday. Click here for the NPL Dollars Support Form. Present it to you server at the restaurant and 10 percent of your total check for food and non-alcoholic beverages will be donated to fund services to victims of violence through VOICe, which serves Butler County.

2. St. Gregory Lawn Fete

The St. Gregory Lawn Fete in Zelienople kicks off at 4 p.m. Thursday with a spaghetti dinner. On Friday, there will be a fish dinner served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday is Bar-B-Q chicken night from 4 to 7 p.m. There also will be games, rides, entertainment and more at the festivities.

3. Touch a Truck

The Mars-Seven Fields Lions Club will hold a "Touch a Truck" event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Mars High School Parking Lot on Route 228. The event will feature police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, various recreational vehicles and the Medevac helicopter. Other cool activities include face painting and balloon creations. Food and cold drinks will be available for purchase. Tickets will be sold at the entrance. The cost is $5 per person and $20 for a family (not to exceed six). There is no admission price for children age 2 and younger.

4. Relay for Life Cranberry

The public is invited to this year’s Rock’N Relay. The 24-hour event to raise money for research through the American Cancer Society kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Boundary Park. Throughout the day there will be games, Chinese auctions, food, raffles, entertainment and more. There also will be live performances by Sarah Khatami and Afterschool Buddy Inc. Rockin' Radio Show, Zumba games and more. Don't miss the touching luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m. Saturday to honor a loved one touched by cancer. 5. Third Annual Brotherhood Memorial Ride

The Third Annual Brotherhood Memorial Ride starts and ends at the Zelienople Fire Department on West Beaver Street Sunday. Post ride festivities include food, a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction. This year’s event benefits the Zelienople Memorial Skate Park that will honor the memory of Trevor Barkley, Sam Bucci, and Elijah Lunsford. Funds raised this year also willl benefit the family of Harmony Volunteer Fire Company Assistant Chief Doug Pickett, who died unexpectedly in April. Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. at the station. The ride departs at 11:15 a.m. Donations asked are $20 per bike and $10 for a passenger. Preregister at zelienoplefiredept.com to receive $5 off.

August 2. Donna Bailey & Kenny Blake Quartet. Local favorite jazz singer meets city jazz. saxophonist .
August 9. Jill West and the Blues Attack. City-based hard-edged blues quintet.
August 16. Softwinds. This versatile doo-wop group specializes in music of the '60s.
