Five Things You Need to Know This Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Seneca Valley School Board Meeting

What’s going on in your child’s school? Find out in person when Seneca Valley school officials meet at 8 p.m. Monday at the Intermediate High School in Jackson Township.

2. Seven Fields Council Meeting

Borough officials are expected to vote at Monday’s meeting on whether to proceed with a formal request for a feasibility study on a regional police department with Evans City. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Seven Fields Municipal Building.

3. 9/11 Memorial Dedication

The public is invited to join Cranberry the Township Volunteer Fire Company for a formal dedication of the 9-11 Memorial at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Park Station on Route 19.

The memorial is structured around an 832-pound piece of twisted steel that fell from one of the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11 2001. Two slabs of granite shaped like the Twin Towers will hold up the damaged I-beam. A likeness of the New York City block where the buildings were located also has been etched into the concrete surrounding the beam.

4. Taste of Cranberry

Sponsored and hosted by The Chamber of Commerce Inc. the annual Taste of Cranberry is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the gym inside the Cranberry Municipal Center. More than 20 area restaurants will be at the gathering.

Tickets are on sale now in The Chamber office in the municipal center. The cost is $12 per ticket for adults and $5 for children. Children age 4 and younger eat free. Partial proceeds from the event benefit the Butler County Humane Society.

5. Cranberry Zumbathon

Local Zumba instructors will come together for a Zumbathon from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the gym inside the Cranberry Municipal Center. Proceeds from the event, which is sponsored by the Cranberry Township Parks and Recreation department, benefit the Western Pennsylvania Alzheimer's Association. There will be prizes, raffles, refreshments and more at the event.
