Field & Stream Store Coming to Former Dick’s Sporting Goods Location in Cranberry

Since Dick’s Sporting Goods closed its location in the Cranberry Square complex off Route 19 in October and moved to a new, two-story building in the Cranberry Crossroads shopping center on Route 228, there have been numerous rumors regarding what would—and should—occupy the former space, including a L.A. Fitness.
Well, the rumors can safely be laid to rest.
Dick’s Sporting Goods has submitted a building permit application to renovate the vacated space into a new sporting goods concept store called Field & Stream, according to Cranberry Township’s business hub.
The new store’s target audience is outdoor lovers. The store will provide an expanded selection of hunting, fishing, hiking and camping equipment from what is currently available at the standard Dick’s Sporting Goods stores, according to the township.
Renovations to the space include a complete overhaul of the building’s front façade, a new exterior paint job, additional landscaping as well as minor improvements to the parking lot.
As shoppers at Cranberry Square may have noticed, some demolition work to make way for the improvements already have begun at the store.
In September, Field & Stream Licenses signed an agreement with Dick's Sporting Goods to sell its intellectual property rights in the hunting, fishing, camping and paddle categories.
An opening date for the new Field & Stream stores has not yet been set, according to the township.

I wish it was going to be a Cabela's, a Gander Mountain, or Bass Pro Shop, but the space is too small. There is a great need for a true outdoors store in the north suburbs - not only for fishing and hunting, but hiking, camping, kayaking, climbing, etc. In my experience, Dick's track record with outdoor gear is pretty bad. Historically poor selection for any type of outdoor activity, high prices, and employees in the department who have no clue about the outdoors or the gear. Additionally, they made it pretty clear where they stand on guns, when they suspended sales of certain guns in December. How does this new store fit in with that philosophy? And do they expect to lure in customers who are currently boycotting DIck's? I *hope* this store meets the needs of outdoors enthusiasts in this area, but don't have high expectations. Prove me wrong, Dick's!

Way too big of a space. Trader Joe's are probably around 10,000 square feet in size. This building is probably 5 times that.

Hobby Lobby? Really??? Let me suggest Grand Central Hobby on 19, or Hobby Express on 228. The prices are better, the selection is the same if not better, and if you take the time to get to know the staff (you know, actually interact with the people who work there and own the business) you can get discounts above and beyond what are listed in the store. And hey, if they don't have what you are looking for, they can order it. As a model railroader, I have NEVER been let down by these shops. Hobby Lobby... LOL

I wasn't aware that stores in Cranberry were ONLY for people who lived in Cranberry. Cabela's is a pretty far drive, and the closest Bass Pro Shops is near Harrisburg, so I am sure that people who live in the northern suburbs, Adams, Middlesex, Butler, Zelie, Harmony, Evans City, etc., would all drive over to Cranberry shop at this new store. But hey, if none of you want those of us who hunt, camp, fish, hike, and bike to shop in Cranberry, that is fine. I would've rather had a Bass Pro Shop than the MedExpress, Springfield Grille, McGinnis Sisters, or CVS they built here in Adams... But I didn't whine like a spoiled kid... Just sayin.

John, obviously you've never been to Hobby Lobby? It is a store that carries all kinds of home accessories. So for those of us that shop and need those kinds of stores have to drive to Robinson for the closest Hobby Lobby, and there is nothing around here that compares!

Janet, you are absolutely right, I have never been to a Hobby Lobby! Not sure why a store that sells home things would name itself that. But I have been to Cabela's, and for those of us who shop and need those kinds of stores have to drive to West Virginia for the closest Cabela's, and there is nothing around here that compares! See what I did there? On the other hand, Bed Bath and Beyond is close, they sell all kinds of home accessories. So is Wal-Mart. Oh well, arguing on the internet is like the special olympics...

John, I have just always assumed (silly me) that Hobby Lobby would be a bigger Hobby Express. Learned from their website today they are more like a Joanns or Micheals.

These stores all SUCK! I agree with Hobby Lobby, we need something different. I am sick of having to drive to Robinson for all the good stuff! And I also agree with the LA Fitness!

Wow. Yes. A Hobby Lobby. While it is similar to Michaels and Joanns, it doesn't really compare.It is not similar to Bed, Bath and Beyond, and I won't even bring in Wal Mart .Really?? I thought it was about using existing space, and both the Kuhns and Dicks spaces are too small for Cabela's or Bass Pro. I would like to see either come to this area, and one eventually will, and they will build a mall to anchor it. and then you will have to drive to W Va for the great outdoors anyway.

I absolutely love cabela's and would love to see one in my area,I agree that what we need are more stores to appeal to everyones needs...we have enough restaurants,believe me Cranberry looks like a ethnic chain of the sorts...I would love to see more clothing stores or how about something for the entire family????
