Dress for Less: Annual 2nd Second Life Prom Dress Sale Taking Place at CCUP in Cranberry

The event featuring new and gently-worn formal gowns attracts high school students from across the region.

Frugal fashionistas, take note!

The popular 2nd Life Prom Dress Sale is happening next week at Cranberry Community United Presbyterian Church on Rochester Road in Cranberry.

Now in its fifth year, the annual community outreach event provides a selection of more than 1,000 new and gently worn formal dresses.

Dresses will be displayed on racks by size and all will be sold for just $20 each. Shoes, wraps/shawls, jewelry and purses/clutches will also be on sale at affordable prices.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at the church. Admission to the sale is free.

Multiple dressing rooms will be available on site with attendants to help as needed. Seamstresses also will be on-hand to provide free consultations and minor alterations.

“Every teenage girl should be able to attend their prom, but unfortunately many families cannot afford the expense that goes along with it,” said Kelly Stebor, 2nd Life Prom Dress Sale coordinator. “The beautiful, barely worn dresses donated from members of the community and surrounding bridal/prom dress shops were probably very expensive.

Our sale allows another girl to enjoy the dress before it goes out of style. And we price the dresses low enough to ensure that every teenage girl can afford to attend their prom.”

The church will continue to accept donated gowns, formal jewelry, and shoes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday until March 15 at the church office. A tax donation receipt is available upon request.

CCUP accepts cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. All proceeds from the sale go to various outreach ministries of the church.

Last year, more than 350 girls were camped outside the church before the doors to the event even opened.

This year, a waiting room opens at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 16 in the upper level of the church, where coffee will be available. The church café opens at 9 a.m. with sandwiches, salads, drinks and cupcakes for sale.

OH the beautiful dresses we have this year! We are way over 1,000 and are hoping to have somewhere between 1,200 and 1,400 dresses for sale. If you know ANYONE who might be interested in this sale, PLEASE have them check us out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ccupcsale, as we are posting pictures of some of the outstanding dresses we will have for sale. We also are selling shoes, wraps, jewelry & purses. There will be seamstresses on-sight who can perform MINOR alterations and give advice on whether dresses can be altered. You really do need to see this to believe it! Come on out, enjoy a cupcake from the Cafe and indulge in a little "dress up" on Saturday! Oh yes, all prom dresses are $20 and all other dresses (and we have LOTS of them) are $10 and under! It is SO MUCH FUN!
