Don't Forget: 'Friends Helping Friends' Beanbag Tourney is Saturday
Proceeds from the event benefit local families in need.
Local residents are hoping to get by with a little help from their ‘Friends.’
For the sixth year in a row, the nonprofit Friends Helping Friends is sponsoring a beanbag tournament to help an area family in need.
This year’s beneficiary is a person who has battled bone cancer 30 years ago and is currently in remission of breast cancer. The other recipient recently had a massive stroke and is currently in rehabilitation facility. Both are in immediate need of assistance for medical bills, according to Friends committee member Tina Muskey.
The cost to enter the tournament is $25 per person and includes food, beer, iced tea and live entertainment. Children ages 10 and younger will be admitted free.
There also will be a Chinese auction, a silent auction, and raffle drawing with a chance to win a framed autographed Mario Lemieux Jersey, Benelli-Nova Turkey Camouflage 12-Gauge shotgun. A $100 cash prize will be drawn the day of the benefit.
The event kicks off at 3 p.m. Saturday at Marburger Dairy on Mars Evans City Road in Evans City. Participants must sign in by 4 p.m. to take part in the tournament. The rain date is June 9.
