Michelle Obama's speech was historic and riveting. It's a reminder that despite the few holdouts we have--people who are nostalgic for an America that benefited only middle-aged, Christian white men--the rest of this country can progress without them.

Progress? Record high unemployment, a national debt that has more than doubled under Obama's leadership, a multi-year stagnant economy and a President that ignores the constitution in order to pander to a special interest block of voters. I could go on and on, but my point is made - if this is progress, may God help us all if Obama is re-elected! He has this country on a dangerous path, and could do significantly more damage to our country if given another 4 years. Go Romney!

The only "unfinished work" he has to do is finish off America. Obama wants to change us alright, into a socialist state unrecognizable to most. I feel that the God fearing Americans will stand up and vote out him and his cronies. How about some facts? Dow Jones stock market went from 6500 (Bush) to 13000 (today), job losses from 4 million and 800,000 per month (Bush) to a gain of 4.5 (today), and regarding the debt, try a fact checker like Snopes.com and ask "who increased the debt?". Check out some real facts. Please read, or watch something other than Fox. Just get informed. Go Obama!!!

Well let me see here, Kris says that under Bush we had average of 800,000 monthly jobless claims. In July 2012 we got the report that (Jobless claims climbed by 8,000 to 365,000 in the week ended July 28, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington-Bloomberg report) there was 365,000 new claims. Let me do the math for you Kris, (365K * 4 weeks) as the handy dandy Canon calculator says that with that weekly numbers then it equates to about 1.46M new job losses. Doesn’t sound to me like Obama is making much progress now does it.

Snopes does not always tell the truth. That is the last place I would go and look for information, take that back I wouldn't even go look on Snopes.com. Kris why when Bush left office gas was 1.60 to 1.80 now what is gas prices 3.80 to 4.00, groceries have gone up because of the price of gas, utilities went up. Everything has gone up in price. Wait till your obamacare goes though the roof and you can't afford to pay for your own healthcare.

When Obama was sworn into office in January 2009, the average price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. was $1.61. However, that was a direct result of the massive recession at the time.Six months earlier, when Bush was president, the price of a gallon of gas peaked at $4.11. The highest price so far under Obama has been around $3.90 per gallon - about 20 cents less than it was under Bush - which is pretty much where it sits today.

Also, do you want to meet a real socialist? Meet Francois Hollande of France. He is a socialist. He believes in a 70% tax on millionaires. He refuses to allow French car plants to shut down, even when the company is near bankruptcy. Obama demanded GM and Chrysler cut costs to get money. Money that Chrysler has paid back all that was due.

Actually, Obama IS a Socialist. Do you even understand what Socialism is? I lived in Chicago back in the 80's when Obama and his wife were preaching Marxist Socialism to anyone who'd listen. He loved to tell everyone that most people America were not capable of making important decisions for themselves and that they needed a strong gov't. to make those decisions for them. He made the local news every week. Rumor was that the people voted him into the State Legislature just to get him out of Chicago.
Do some research into the archives of the Chicago Tribune - a very liberal newspaper, I might add. You will be truly enlightened by what you read. Then do some research into the archives of the Springfield, IL newspapers to see what Obama did once he got there as a newly elected State Legislator.

Do you understand socialism? The government controls industry. Last time I checked, my parents don't work for the government. UPMC is not owned by the government. US Steel is not owned by the government. The private industry exists, therefore we are not socialist. We're not capitalist either, since we have government regulations. We are combination aka mixed economy. Obama leans left, no question but he has never stated that he wants to own any industry.

Share the wealth is a socialist way of thinking this country was built on a group of people who build companies then hire another group of people to work for them not a bad thing. Then we have another group who sits back and waits for the government to keep them with our tax money . Before you get upset some people do need government help and I am all for it. But their is a large percentage in the last group that all they want is a hand out not a hand up.

@Erin Connors - How do you believe the national debit should be reduced? This subject has (so far) been avoided by the DNC speakers?
N/A
6:59 pm on Wednesday, September 5, 2012
I don't think what I believe is relevant to the DNC. Obama believes in lowering corporate tax rates to 28% (compromise with Republican party) while closing tax loopholes (the same kind of loopholes referenced and attacked by Reagan) which will hopefully encourage new corporate growth while ensuring the old corporate life actually pays there taxes (remember this is not what I believe). Following this military spending must be decreased (I do believe this fully as does the Obama administration, ron paul, many grassroots organizations, et al). Our international presence is enormous and our military spending trumps all other major nation's military spending combined. We, as a country, only export money and military, and we do not allow other countrys to participate in a fair international market by maintaining different types of military control over their resources (the last part was more me than Obama). We then have to produce. Support america's agriculture (this was talked about at the DNC) business, and the Obama administration supports safety regulated oil and natural gas drilling (he is cautious and shouldn't we all be after the BP spill?) and beginning to manufacture and produce other forms of energy, which whether big oil likes it or not, will inevitably become a huge business (especially and first in Europe). Reforming healthcare is a big deal too but addresses a symptom rather than a root problem.
N/A
7:15 pm on Wednesday, September 5, 2012
I don't claim the Obama administration is 100% correct. Really it just comes down to producing more and spending less. Actual taxes have very little to do with the national deficit (http://www.heritage.org/federalbudget/runaway-spending-tax-revenue) but bc it is something Obama proposes (reducing corporate tax rates) and the only thing that I have read/heard Romney propose (a difference in 3% between the two), I mention it. Seems to be a big deal to people.
So what is Romney's plan to reduce the country's debt? Is he a fiscal conservative? McCain at the RNC spoke out against military cuts in spending and actually supported an increase in spending. Well, an increase in spending obviously results in more debt. If Romney represents a party of fiscal conservatives how can propose lowering taxes and increasing military spending? We all know that even if Welfare was eliminated it would not cover the cost of defense spending. We are at 902 billion annually for defense and 451 billion for Welfare (this includes unemployment, food stamps, worker compensation, housing, family and children needs, etc).
I don't know...With the GOP's only suggestion being to lower corporate taxes (no effect on deficit) and increase defense spending, can we still call them "conservatives?" Are the democrats the conservatives now? Political parties have been known to flip before. It is interesting to think ponder. Nobody has answered me at all on the RNC thread.

On Sept. 24, 2008, George W. Bush stood in front of the nation, white-faced and grim, telling Americans not to panic in spite of the unprecedented downturn of the American economy. He said “we are in the midst of a serious financial crisis.” This was 2 months before Obama was elected.
Almost 800,000 job losses were recorded in Feb. 2009. Obama had only been in office one month. Romney recently said whoever is elected should be given “at least 6 months to a year for his policies to begin to take effect.” So, let’s give Obama that amount of time.
If we do that, by Feb 2010 the economy had added about 4 million jobs and the stock market rose by 30.83 percent.
In the past year, the economy has added 1.9 million jobs and the stock market is up by close to 9 %
If you look at his 4 years in total, the economy has a net loss of 316,000 jobs – but that includes the 800,000 lost in February, 2009, which, according to Romney, should not be counted. However the stock market has risen by 70 percent in 4 years.
Just pointing this out, in case anyone is interested in some context.

They stay silent. You say you enjoyed Mrs. Obama's speech and they answer with rudeness. They can't tell you what Romney is proposing because they don't know (he has not told anyone), but they can be childish and disrespectful. You notice none of them have responded to my posts. As for the rest, Everyone likes to say Obama increased the national debt more in three years than Bush did in eight. Let's take that one step further, shall we?
Reagan: Increased from $930 billion to $2.7 billion in 8 years or 188.6 %
Bush 1: Increased from $2.7 billion to $4.1 billion in 4 years or 55.6%
Clinton: Increased from $4.1 billion to 5.7 billion in 8 years or 35.6%
Bush 2: Increased from $5.7 billion to $10.7 billion in 8 years or 89%
Obama: Increased from $10.7 billion to 15.2 billion in 3 years or 41.4%
It's also worth noting that the only other time the national debt increased at the rate it did under Obama was during another time of financial crises: The Great Depression. When the economy is bad, the national debt always goes up, it's a financial reality, it's how the economy recovers.

When did this happen? When did racism get redefined? I mean, rational people know that this above statement is not true. This is not my concern.
What I am concerned with is the origin of the redefining of racism for political propaganda. Yes, obviously the guy above who said we need to get Obama out of "the WHITE house" was racist bc he was implying that because of Obama's skin color he should not be allowed in office which leads to the assumption that he is not qualified bc of his ethnicity.
Ken is displaying a kind of redefining of racism phenomena. Because of his skin color people put him as the leader of this country. Instead of giving him the credit he deserves for overcoming racism and becoming the first black president in this country (huge deal people), ppl attempt to take that away from him by denying that racism is a problem and claiming ppl only voted for him bc he is black. So absurd.
You also get this thing that I still only see come from those on the far/new right, but I am trying not to assume that is the origin, where people who say "hey my friend, what you are saying is really offensive and racist" are then told that _they_ are in fact the racist for even suggesting racism exists bc they have in turn just recognized a difference in ethnicity.

Racism (from plain ole dictionary.com): a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

Even if the whole country voted in Obama to prove that they themselves were not racist, this would not be a racist act. They would not have voted him in bc he is black and thought a black person is inherently superior to a white person (racism), they would have voted him in to prove something about themselves while assuming no superiority of Obama bc of his ethnicity.

The hypocrisy here is so rich it’s laughable.
You have Big Red and Erin longing for the days of civil discourse – do tell us eager readers about those mythic good old days – complaining about personal attacks, name calling and the lack of rationale, probing debate where all opinions are respected and given their due right of expression.
So, we take them at their word. After all, liberals are the compassionate and conservatives are the vicious hate mongers who seek to squash opposition. Given this, Denise shares her views on issues important to her. She’s called a racist and a bigot. Who is one of those monsters who called her a racist and a bigot? Surely not Big Red, the paradigm for rationale, compassionate discussion. But he does and that is confusing. Why would he do this so soon after chastising that behavior in others? That’s not all, there’s more. Big Red goes on to tell Denise that if she wants her country to reflect her values then she can move to Iran. This is shocking behavior to be sure.
I wanted to see if Erin would remind Big Red of their earlier discussion to correct this reprehensible behavior. There was no such post from Erin. She sits idly by while her cohort engages in behavior she abhors in those who disagree with her. Sadly, we see this “show” repeated over and over again. They love to feign culture, intelligence and respectability all the while conveying the very “lowbrow” characteristics they hate in detractors.

Please explain to me why what city is the capitol of Israel should be on ANY platform? What do we as Americans have to do with it? Why should God have to be a part of any platform? Is this not a secular government we supposedly have?
Here's a question - Mitt says that marriage has always been between a man and a woman, that it's been like that for thousands of years. The truth is that his own religion saw marriage as between a man and multiple women until God changed his mind and told the leader of the church just a little over 100 years ago to ban polygamy. (They insist the government seizing church property had nothing to do with the decision, it was God's word). Who says God hasn't changed his mind again and said anyone can get married? I had a weird dream the other day - could have been God speaking to me.
Here's an idea, let's discuss these issues based on fact, history, science and common sense. Why do we have to bring imaginary beings into any of this?

Ken - Obama's father was a muslim, therefore he was considered a Muslim as a young child, just as I was considered a Methodist when I was a young child. When he was old enough to think for himself, he chose Christianity a quote - "I'm a Christian by choice. My family didn't – frankly, they weren't folks who went to church every week. And my mother was one of the most spiritual people I knew, but she didn't raise me in the church. So I came to my Christian faith later in life, and it was because the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead – being my brothers' and sisters' keeper, treating others as they would treat me. "
I am no longer a Methodist either. When I was old enough to think for myself, I realized religion is a crutch and made up stories for those that fear death. Some insist on dragging religion into politics because they think everyone agrees with their beliefs. They would be mistaken.

JS what you seem to forget this country was built on christianity and 80% of the country say they are christians. Why should the country have to change to satisfy a persons religion or the fact they don't believe who is in the minority . No one is telling anyone how to believe or live our lives except our government and our current President. And I for one want the government out of my personal life. It is a shame in this country for one person or a minority group to feel offended by a cross , ten commandments, nativity set and wanting it moved and the government jumps right and their and states move it or we will sue and ruin your community ,even if the majority of that community wants it. Christianity built this country and made it strong and if a religion who has a different belief then what this country was built on they should be the ones who are more tolerant. If we enter their country we are tolerant of their beliefs and don't say the Koran affends me remove it. Before I could blink I would be sitting in a prison or beheaded. If you come to this country knowing that this is what the majority of this country is built on they should practice the tolerants they claim they have.
One more thing my religious beliefs is not a crutch and our founding fathers and Constitution makes it a political issue. Destroy what this country was built on and you'll destroy this country.

this might help you understand "Can America be called a Christian nation?... There are millions of Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Shintoists, Unitarians, Hindus, Wiccans, Naturists, Agnostics, and Atheists, but Christians comprise roughly 84% of the population. Our constitutional legal system is still based on the Jewish/Christian Bible, not the Koran or other holy book. We still observe Sunday, the Christian Sabbath, as an official holiday. Easter and Christmas still have a special place in the holiday lexicon. The Ten Commandments are still on the wall behind the Supreme Court Justices when they take the bench. Our coins still display the motto 'In God We Trust.'... We live, not under a Christian government, but in a nation where all are free to practice their particular religion, in accommodation with other religions, and in accordance with the basic principles of the nation, which are Christian in origin. It is in that sense that America may properly be referred to as a Christian nation."

Well, this country's law document is not the decralation of independence. It is the constitution and its amendments. That document said we are no longer a colony of great Britain. Also, our founders weren't perfect men. You're right that they founded this nation on Christian principles. It doesn't mean they were right everything. Hence why we have amendments. America protects its minorities, but we're not perfect. I believe the "In god we trust" was sued for violating the constitution, but it was upheld by the supreme court. So while we may be Christian at our origin, we were also a slave nation at our origin too.

Just to clarify this whole “gas prices” and “national debt” thing one more time:
When Obama was sworn into office in January 2009, the average price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. was $1.61. However, that was a direct result of the massive recession at the time. Six months earlier, when Bush was president, the price of a gallon of gas peaked at $4.11. The highest price so far under Obama has been around $3.90 per gallon.
And on to the debt:
Reagan: Increased from $930 billion to $2.7 billion in 8 years or 188.6 %
Bush 1: Increased from $2.7 billion to $4.1 billion in 4 years or 55.6%
Clinton: Increased from $4.1 billion to 5.7 billion in 8 years or 35.6%
Bush 2: Increased from $5.7 billion to $10.7 billion in 8 years or 89%
Obama: Increased from $10.7 billion to 15.2 billion in 3 years or 41.4%

The president has no influence on gas prices. They can fluctuate rapidly due to a variety of conditions, including weather. Not to mention that they are always rising due to a natural upshift in inflation. Which is why we no longer pay 60 cents per gallon like we did in the 1960s..
Having said that:
First month in office gas price increases:
180 percent - George W
107 percent - Obama
3 years and 3 months in office (Obama's been in office 3 years, 8 months, but figures aren't available for the last 5 yet):
81 percent - George W
104 percent - Obama
It is disingenuous of me to use one month of gas prices when W was president to compare, but it's also disingenuous of everyone on this forum to say that prices were $1.79 a gallon when W left office and are $3.80 or whatever now and then say that's evidence of rising gas prices under Obama. They are numbers out of context.

President Barack Obama was a pioneering contributor to the national subprime real estate bubble, and roughly half of the 186 African-American clients in his landmark 1995 mortgage discrimination lawsuit against Citibank have since gone bankrupt or received foreclosure notices.
As few as 19 of those 186 clients still own homes with clean credit ratings, following a decade in which Obama and other progressives pushed banks to provide mortgages to poor African Americans.
The startling failure rate among Obama’s private sector clients was discovered during The Daily Caller’s review of previously unpublished court information from the lawsuit that a young Obama helmed as the lead plaintiff’s attorney.
In case you ever wondered what Barack Obama did as a “community organizer,” now you know. He forced banks to give mortgages to people who could not afford to pay them back – and the results were exactly what anyone with a brain would predict.
Either Obama was too dumb to predict that these mortgages would end in disaster – or he was smart enough to know what would happen, but pushed for the mortgages anyway. Either way, his actions prove that is not fit to be in any kind of position of power.

Sue T can't see why the DNC spent valueable prime time on Sandra Fluke.>>>>>>
Maybe Women's issues are important to the DNC.
Here are MsFluke's words, might help you see:
I entered this national debate on women's rights in February, when I testified before Congress on the issue of contraception.
Without knowing me or my story, Rush Limbaugh called me a "slut" and a "prostitute" on his radio show.
Many Americans stepped forward to tell me they supported my right to speak out without being verbally attacked. President Obama stood with us.
Mitt Romney didn't even condemn the remark.
I'm even more resolved to continue the fight to make sure every single woman -- and every man who cares about the women in his life -- knows exactly what's at stake in this election. Paul Ryan joined Todd Akin co-sponsoring legislation that would have narrowed the definition of rape, limiting which victims of rape were "legitimate".
Mitt Romney famously says he would "get rid of" Planned Parenthood if he had the chance. Romney and Ryan pledge to go back to a system where insurance companies discriminate against women and charge us more than men for the same insurance.
President Obama has told us : "I want women to control their own health choices, just like I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as your sons."
Republicans, led by Romney and Ryan, have made it clear that they want to make our decisions for us.

Yes, those that need financial assistance should be provided health services based on their needs. But those that can take care of themselves should. And I think we should all strive to not be dependent on the government for our daily needs. Sandra Fluke wants the government to take care of her. I can't respect her. As far as Rush goes, why would she take him seriously? She certainly did not deserve a prime time postion on the DNC platform. Man, if I can ever manage to sound anything like Michelle Obama, I will have accomplished something pretty fantastic. She is a very impressive woman.
A woman suggesting that women should meet some sort of criteria to have control over their own body is so much worse, but there were many women who organized entire interests groups against suffrage, equal marriage rights for women in marriage, etc. I realize that this is probably not what you meant, but it is what you said, and words like that are dangerous. I recognize that you do make an effort to be civil, and I appreciate that. I really do. But I do not have to meet anyone's standards/criteria for control over my own body. Not ever and especially not because I am a woman.
Polls are notoriously unreliable. For every poll that you cite which shows that some majority supports what you believe to be true, I can show you five more that say the opposite. People really should never cite them...especially people claiming to be representative of the "real world."
Yes, I think that the people who made those previously listed racist, sexist, and/or ignorant comments are in the minority. It is either that or move into isolation and pray for the end of the human race. I choose to remain optimistic.

Ok. I am apparently not being clear. It is not that I believe that poll numbers are not true.
What does a poll do? A poll surveys a selected group of people. If I were to poll Lake Erie to see what the majority fish was in the lake, I would get small mouth bass (the kind of fish does not matter). I could then say, "the majority population of lakes are populated by small mouth bass." Uh oh. Somebody else took a poll in Lake Ontario and found that the majority population of that lake was river trout. That somebody else released a statement saying "the majority population of lakes are populated by river trout."
Both polls are only correct for their lake, but they have extended their poll to be inclusive of all of the lakes. So no, the Patch is not an actual representation of the majority population in this area (whichever Patch you belong to). Polls are just for fun. Some are more scientific for more accurate results, but they are never very reliable.
Pa has gone democrat in the past 5 or so Presidential elections. Romney has already dropped his campaign ads in this state. If I were a betting man, my money would not be on Romney for PA even with voter suppression laws.
AND YET STILL! I was emphatically _not_ referring to who supports which presidential candidate in my post. I was referring to (& was very clear considering my examples listed below my remark) ppl who hold racist, sexist, and/or just ignorant opinions being in the minority.

I think its hilarious obama had to move his speech inside cause he couldn't fill the stadium outside.
Don't say weather was a factory cause that's b.s. less then 30% chance of rain when they decided. Plus he spoke in the rain back in July a talked about a little rain never hurt anybody.
Maybe they were counting the 30,000 still registered voters in NC that are already six feet under, to help fill the stadium with the other empty headed obama lovers.

Nothing leaves a more positive tone than booing God and Jerusalem. Funny how there was no YouTube link on how the chairman forced these back on the platform against the will of the delegates similar to the one posted about Republicans.
It leaves one with a sense of civility when Republicans are compared to Nazis on multiple occasions, racists on multiple occasions or when the chairman of the Palm Beach County Democrats says Christians want to kill Jews.
It’s also a positive when the DNC chair got caught lying on camera regarding a conversation with the Israeli Ambassador. For those of you who missed it, Wasserman Shultz said she spoke with the Israeli Ambassador and he said “. . . what the Republicans are doing is dangerous for Israel.” Well, the Israeli Ambassador says he never said it. So, what does WS do, she lies. She says the reporter misquoted her. Well, here’s the problem, there was audio. WS caught in a lie, but that’s what she does.
Yep, this was definitely the convention of peace and love.

I haven't heard the ratings for last night, but for Wednesday, the combined total viewing audience for all stations was extremely low, actually tied with Honey Boo Boo. Instead, everyone was off watching the football game. The conventions preach to the choir. Personally, I didn't find Obama's speech at all informative. He made the same promises he made four years ago, but still no speifics on his plan to actually achieve them this time around. Romney wasn't specific either, but the Obama camp criticized him for that and said, and promised his speech would provide his specifics. Yet another broken promise.

Ok, for the very last time, I did not say "poll fraud." I assume that "poll fraud" would be lying about poll results. Poll results are always unreliable even if legitimate. They are so unreliable that GREs (standardized entrance exams for grad schools) actually have a question asking the test taker to write an essay explaining why polls are unreliable. This is not a conspiracy theory. Go read the fish story again. I actually put effort in trying to explain this to you very carefully.
I have explained that the "minority" group that I am referring to is a group of racist, sexist, and ignorant people REGARDLESS of political affiliation. Why are you trying so hard to convince me that these people are the majority?
Voter suppression and polls being unreliable are facts. Google Mike Turzai. Read my blog that I posted. There are tons of links to different voter suppression laws _other than_ voter ID laws. This is historically common political strategy, not conspiracy theory.
I ask direct questions about Mitt Romney, sincerely looking for incite into the Republican party beyond what I see on Fox News bc I figure that maybe I am missing something. I figure there must be a rational plan that Romney is putting out to reduce our debt & help the country get back on its feet bc the economy is supposed to be the #1 issue. "Romney is a business man" is not a viable plan for this country! ok...Now my brain and my heart hurt. I am done.

They're all lawyers (even businessman Romney). How can you trust anything they say? Politicians only care about two things: (1) getting elected, and (2) getting re-elected. They say whatever it takes to get the most votes and don't care who they step on to get what they want. Their goal is to create disagreement (see the discussions above) and not unity. What people forget is that the left and right agree on 95% of the issues, it is the other 5% they let tear us apart.
The political divide created in the most part by mass media (both sides included - Limbaugh, Maddow, etc.) over the last decade is disgusting and has been the #1 cause of our economic problems. Only when government can come together to repair this damage will their be true progress.

Women's health insurance rates are often double that of men. Whether you agree with that or not, I can tell you because I pay my bill and have the same exact plan as my brother. I pay more than double....and it is not a good plan. I don't care if you agree with this or not, but that is what she is referring to.
Roger
6:52 am on Saturday, September 8, 2012
Erin, Erin, Erin, ... Your comment about differences in health insurance rates demonstrate you know nothing about insurance. Your comment echos some of the foolish rhetoric a couple of years ago during the health care debates.
Let us start at the very top. Insurance is all about risk. Risk determines payouts. Rates are directly related to anticipated payouts. Why are the life insurance rates of men and women of the same age different, with men paying more? Men's lifespan is less than that of women, so the expected payout will be more likely during the coverage period. These differences change with the age of the insured.
Why do accident-prone drivers pay more for auto insurance? The insurance companies realize the likelihood of payouts will be greater, hence the different rates.
You do not have the exact plan as your brother. The box for you has "F" blackened, but the box for him has "M" blackened.
I realize early life in college tends to shield us from the realities of these matters. So, we give you a pass on this one. There are some of these things we learn apart from the classroom.

Once again the dnc vetted her speech and needed to back trrack because of the damage her previous statment had caused. You see hard working taxpayers are tried of paying for things people should be responsible for themselves. Not having sex if you can't afford to get pregnant is what a responsible person does or find other ways of protection they can afford. Erin says: "... I pay my bill and have the same exact plan as my brother. I pay more than double ...."
There isn't any room for subjective assessments in your statement. Double is twice -- an objective measure.
Perhaps your response reflects the trend of college students these days -- there are no absolutes. I guess that paying twice as much is been relegated to an opinion, not as a hard fact. I know, it may be a challenge to accept that there are some absolutes left, and saying your payment is twice as much as that of your brother is one of them.

Women would pay more for insurance because women have babies...babies are expensive. It's really just simple actuarial computations, not some grand conspiracy against women....it's also why I have to pay more for my teenage driver to operate one of my cars. How dare the insurance companies discriminate against teenagers! (that's sarcasm, folks) Teenagers have more accidents, that's why...if he or I can't afford the insurance, my kid doesn't drive. That makes it difficult for him to work or to date, but the government won't and shouldn't pick up the tab. Just as I have to take responsibility for my own affairs, so should all Americans. Safety nets for the poor are not safety nets if half the population is partaking in them....

I tell them when I get the bill every 6 months that on such and such a date if you don't have your portion, you don't drive for the next 6 months. One daughter thought I was kidding but when she found her car key missing off her key chain and every time she wanted my keys to drive the car she got a big fat NO. Next time it was due she had her portion sitting on my desk an hour after I told her that the bill was in.
As for birth control. women who want to have control over her own body should pay for her own birth control, abortions, etc. Only thing insurance should be paying for is for her to go see the gyn once a year. Next were going to have to give men free viagra so that they can get it up.

ML once again you show your true colors a far left liberal the first articles from the LA times a liberal newspaper from a liberal state who can't even run their own state going bankrupt.
Second this shows the mind set of this country today heaven forbid if some one or a company should fail.Today children get a trophy for just showing up or free shoes for showing up at school for one day so that the school can have a larger number to report to the state. If a businees is failing why pump money into it to watch it fail any way like Obama's solar companies. Go ahead bring up the GM argument by the way OBAMA DIDN"T SAVE IT THE TAXPAYERS DID and we did not get all our money back. When the money dries up for a failing company it will fail eventually if some rough choices are not made to make it profitable and in the real world sometimes you have to fail. Yes it is rough to watch and I also feel for the people who loss their jobs just like the people at Obamas' solar companies. You know why Obama's companies are failing because he is not a smart enough business man to realize their is not a market for it.
Third a very good video it just show Romney is not willing to say just anything to get a vote. Obama was for a marriage between a man and a women until he thought he could get more votes by saying now he is for gay marriage. Which over 30 some states have voted gay marriage down. Jon, you make a serious misread about what some of the posters here are saying. While many (most? all?) would agree with your "scare" scene, and helping others, the question is how is the help done. Some of us get up our ire when the government tells us how, how much, and why to offer the help. The same group may be very benevolent to helping others, but in their way, in their timing, and motivated for the why.
We can only look to national disasters, such as Katrina, the tornadoes that went through Missouri a year or so ago, and many others. Long after the government was gone, those remaining to help were there on their own accord, doing the work as they saw fit, and with the right motivation. I know many who were on these helping trips. They only found others with like motivations and interest doing the work.
Before getting on a rant about offering help to others through government channels, we need to be sure we've got our own motivations in order first. Yes, compassion still exists is large doses. If you are not seeing it, then you are not part of the group offering to help on your own accord.

Sorry but I worked 2 jobs sometimes to make ends meet, put children though college and still was able to pay for my own health care. Sorry I'm not a Democrat that wants everything han ded to them for free. I am glad that I never got caught up on buy now and pay later with credit cards. I also go out every time Habitat for Humanity builds a home and donates my time, plus I have paid to put in all appliances in these homes for people. Maybe it is you that needs to go out and do some Charity work for the really poor. Why not come down to the Food Bank every week and donate 4 hours of your time getting bags of food ready for people. We sure can use the help down there, but it is people like you that are too busy with their own lives that forget about the poor who really need help. A family of 4 living off of 50,000-60,000 should not get free health care, they should have since they started to work, had the money pulled out of their paycheck to pay for their own health insurance, but they just want to complain that it is to much money to come out of their paycheck.

proud American, I so agree with a column for the whiners who want everything for free, but have no problem spending money they don't have. It is the same ones over and over again with entitlement. That they think the Government owes them everything. How many people from other Countries want to come to the United States and live the American Dream of being free to choose what they want out of life.
I lost a dear friend the other day who died from Lymphoma in Scotland the other day. Seems that with their Government run healthcare she couldn't get into see the Doctor for 6 months because of how their system works. In the six months she waited to see an Oncologist she died before the 6 months were up.

Jon Wain this country wasn't built on free anything it was built on hard work . It is one thing to help out a neighbor in the time of need but another thing to keep them for the rest of their life. Don't envy Jean because she is a success congratulate her for her hard work. Health care is not a joke Obama care is.

ml - I wouldn't want to be you that is for sure. You have shown over and over how jealous you are of everyone. You have lied on many of these post about what you have, what you don't have. How rich you are living off 2,500 a month the crying on another post about you can't afford to live. Your comments are a laugh to most people on here, as your jealously shows on all your post.

Jon who will pay for all this free health care free educations etc. look how this has worked in the European countries they are going bankrupted. Not putting you down Jon and if you are working three jobs why would you want to pay more taxes so that a lot group of people who don't want to work can sit at home while you are working so hard. There money comes from your taxes and I am not saying people don't want to help people in this country they just don't want to keep them all their lives. Look when we have a disaster in this country Americans will all be their in our citizens time of need how ever they can. Welfare, food stamps, medicade are all good programs but the majority of the people receiving them don't pay taxes to keep those programs running they just sit back and collect. I know a lot of young able body people who could be out their working as hard as you but choose to let the government keep them. Look at Social Security people paid into this program to be able to receive them when they retire look what the government did to that program they took the money out of that program to run some of the other government funded programs now it is slowly being destroyed. These programs are needed but they also have to be controlled Clinton started a good program where people receiving help at least had to look for employment and welfare roll was dropping now Obama reversed it. Not everyone is like you Jon you need help for 3 months now working 3 jobs that great.

Jon - "Free" healthcare. Nothing is free no matter what the Democrats tell you. Even the countries that you look longingly to that have nationalized healthcare can not endure the burden. Even Cuba is cutting back on the "freebies" : http://finance.yahoo.com/news/cuba-campaign-takes-free-health-care-142839515.html.
Canadian citizens come here for treatment. Keep your socialized and nationalized medical system.

Jon, I believe in giving food stamps and medical to people that need to get back on their feet when they lose jobs. What I have a problem with is the ones that make a career out of living off the system. There was a time when I first started out that I could of used the help but I guess I was to proud to ask for the help. I relied on family back then to help me out when I needed food to put on the table for my children. I had a child that needed emergency heart surgery at the age of 5 and it took me 3 years to pay off the medical bills on the salary that my husband and I were making. We were both working a full time and part time job to just make the payments to the hospital every month. Yes I could of went down and got free medical back then, but I wasn't brought up to ask for things for free. That is when I started paying for my own medical and still do to this day.

Jon enjoyed our debate and it is ok to agree and disagree. I agree on one thing we need a better health care system I just think a better approached would have been tackle one part at a time. I heard something the other day that made me stop and think it came from a group of doctors talking about what they saw as some of the problem. They all seem to agree a more uniform cost for test etc.. One hospital can charge several different cost for the same test they said . One price for no insurance and different cost for different types of insurance. If the cost was more uniform then they could open up the market and people could shop for their own insurance to get the best rate. Obama care was so large and throwed at us before anyone knew what was in it and they are still debating what is in it.

That opening of the market that you are describing through the regulation of prices from both the medical corp end (hospitals, testing centers) and the insurance end is exactly what PPACA is trying to do.
You are absolutely right. It is a lot and pretty scary. That is why, because of our checks and balances, we are seeing it being broken up and implemented in stages, going through court cases, etc.
The main thing the PPACA does is regulate cost. It is not a health plan and outside of medicare that assists those in need, it does not pay for anything. It is reworking our healthcare system because (if we remember correctly) it was failing miserably while avoiding making healthcare public (like in Canada) because this country does not want that. Despite all of the anger right now created by ppl that don't give a crap about this issue, it is the result of a successful government. The PPACA is not Canadian, it isn't European, it is not Socialist, it is big and new which tends to be how this country rolls.
Regardless of the Presidential election, the PPACA is not going anywhere. Romney does not have that kind of power as it is already law. If laws were that fragile this country would be in a lot worse shape than it is in now....or better....I suppose it depends on the law.

For Pete's sake. "Obamacare" was never actually called Obamacare. It was passed by the Senate in 2009 and was called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act then too.
I thought we were being civil now and actually talking facts and legitimate concerns that do not involve death panels and socialism. My mistake.
Because here is the thing: You guys don't listen when I repeatedly say that I have concerns and am by no means 100% comfortable with government policies right now (specifically foreign policy but also the PPACA etc). I say it over and over and all I get is "Erin Conners is a liberal" as if that is a dirty word...or as if it is true because guess what? Liberals would not consider me liberal. Bam. Mind blown.
Commence with the being horrible to each other. Maybe I will actually read a few college or age jabs before I give up on paying attention again.
Side note: Do you ever get suspicious that right wing propaganda is so full of anti-education rhetoric? I go to school in Western PA (as a nontraditional), and it is by NO MEANS a liberal campus. Not at all.
Just think about it for a second...Why would a political party (any party) be so anti-education, and why would anyone ever buy that education is a bad thing? "Colleges are evil indoctrination camps" is unquestioned right wing rhetoric at this point. _That_ really scares me. the day when we are all convinced education is bad for us.

Erin, some of us are glad you are here to write your messages. We like your passion and enthusiasm, and interest.
We also like to see your messages because it gives us some insight into the young, college aged kids -- at least from one viewpoint. This helps us understand what happens on college campuses and why the young graduates emerge from the college campus with their ideas. It also reveals that their viewpoint is very, very narrow, and, dare I say, naive and ignorant. Not much about life really happens in those classrooms. Maturity doesn't come through academic studies, and being in the closed environment a college campus provides. The perspective is necessarily tempered by what comes from those teaching on campus. It is clear that the range of worldviews represented across campuses is very wide. Some parents spend much time in choosing a college that is consistent with a worldview they hold. For many parents, the pool of those colleges is very small, so they must choose carefully.
Your viewpoints help us understand the worldview you embrace, even though you choose not to reveal the basis of that worldview.
You do help us to understand your cloistered viewpoint with regard to the anti-education topic. Clearly, you have not wandered out into the real world if you hold this position. While attempting to convince others about openness, these statements reveal quite the opposite.
Hang in there. Life will bring useful experiences your way.

Roger you are truly one of the most condescending people ever...in the history of humankind. Because you never actually offer any information, I am pegging you as a troll. This is also due to the fact that no matter how much I tell you that I swiftly approaching my 30th and that I left college to work for 10 years (bills to pay), you continue to refer to me as a college aged kid. Why do you do this? To attempt to make me angry. Who participates in threads only to attempt to make people angry? Internet trolls.
More evidence, I say "i pay double insurance" and then explicity state that is not any opinion. I did not say whether that payment was justified, right, or wrong. I said that Sandra Fluke was opposed. You go on to explain that me saying "i pay double..." was not an opinion. Awesome! Because that was exactly my point. I offered no opinion. I was simply clarifying what Fluke was addressing. And yet you still continue to explain the difference between objective and subjective and all of this crap about absolutes.
So there are two options with the previous scenario. Either you really have incredibly poor reading comprehension skills, or you are just arguing for the sake of angering me because you are an internet troll and you know that if you continue to intentionally misinterpret/misread everything that I say, eventually my mind will explode due to the absurdity of your comments.
