District Court: Retail Theft and DUI Charges

The following people were charged and waived their scheduled Jan. 27 preliminary hearings before District Judge David Kovach in Cranberry.
Retail Theft
Sabrina Lynn Haun, 30, of Straubs Lane, Pittsburgh, was charged with retail theft. Cranberry Police said they were called to the Walmart on Route 19 at about 2:30 p.m. Oct. 17 after a store loss prevention officer saw Haun attempting to leave Walmart with clothing and numerous other items she did not pay for. The employee stopped Haun before she left the store, according to the criminal complaint. The items were not damaged and were returned to Walmart. According to the criminal complaint, the value of the merchandise was $1,074.
DUI
- Richard Patrick Farrell, 21, of Trillium Drive, Cranberry, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol, disregarding traffic lanes and failure to keep right. Cranberry Police stopped Farrell at about 1:50 a.m. Dec. 7 after he was seen driving erratically on Route 19 near Glen Eden Road. Police said Farrell’s blood-alcohol level was 0.157 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
- Valerie L. Squires, 26, of Helen Street in Library, PA, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol and disregarding traffic lanes. Cranberry police pulled over Squires at about 1:50 a.m. Nov. 24 after she was seen driving erratically on Rochester Road. Police said she also almost struck a raised concrete berm near Thomson Park Drive. Police said Squires had a blood-alcohol level was 0.15 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
- Matthew J. Macher, 33, of Fox Run Road, Cranberry, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol, careless driving, disregarding a traffic lane, driving with a suspended or revoked license and speeding. Cranberry police said Macher struck a tree with his pickup truck at about 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in the woods off Franklin Road near Shady Oak Drive. Macher was conscious and became verbally abusive with officers at one point, according to the criminal complaint. Police said Macher’s blood-alcohol level was 0.142 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
- Kevin Patrick O’Connell, 18, of Sun Valley Drive, Cranberry, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol, careless driving and speeding. Cranberry Police said they were called to Powell Road near Darlington Road at about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 19 after the car O’Connell was driving struck a fire hydrant, causing it to gush water. O’Donnell told police he was attempting to pick up his dropped cell phone when he went off the roadway and hit the hydrant. Police said O’Connell’s blood-alcohol level was 0.162 percent, exceeding the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
