Deadline Approaches for Absentee Ballot Application for Aug. 7 Special Election

The deadline is 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 31.

Cranberry area residents who need an absentee ballot for the upcoming Aug. 7 special election to fill the vacancy in the 40th state Senatorial District must apply before 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 31.

Democrat Sharon Brown and Republican Rep. Randy Vulakovich are running for the right to complete the term of former Sen. Jane Orie, who was convicted and sentenced to prison for using her state paid staff to do campaign work.

Absentee ballots are available to registered voters who will be absent from their municipality on Aug. 7, or those who cannot reach the polls due to an illness or disability.

Absentee ballot applications may be requested through the mail or in person at the Butler County Government Center, 124 West Diamond Street, Butler, PA 16003. Eligible voters may also obtain an application by visiting www.votespa.com

Registered voters are encouraged to request their absentee ballot applications as soon as possible. Applications must be completed and returned to the Elections Division no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31.  An absentee ballot will then be mailed to the applicant.

Recently, the readers of the North HillsCranberry and Pine-Richland Patches were asked to submit questions to both candidates. The three editors of those Patch sites assembled those questions, and added a few of their own, for the candidates.

Their answers can be found in this series of articles.
