Where there’s smoke … There’s the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company.
With help from state-certified fire instructors from across the region, including the Peters Township and Mt. Lebanon fire departments, Cranberry firefighters conducted a training session at 70 Burke Road over the weekend.
While Saturday consisted of a classroom environment, volunteers got hands-on experience Sunday when they lit the vacant house on fire and conducted drills inside the burning home.
The owner of the property donated the three-bedroom ranch-style home to the fire company for training. Fire Chief Brian Kovac said the resident had planned to demolish the house and build a new structure, but first called the fire company to ask if they could make use of it.
